How to Repair a Vintage 8-Track Tape Player

This video will show my ‘attempt’ to repair a Realistic TR-882 8-Track Stereo Recorder/Play Deck (Model 14-944). This unit had several issues, two of them being very fixable; it needed a new drive belt and it had a stuck track changer. But the one thing I couldn’t fix was the broken mount for the Flywheel Capstan. I am currently not able to find a replacement. Please let me know if you have one.

I was gonna say what others have said already here. You could epoxy that all back together. There are some amazing products out there that could make that whole again

Can anyone tell me if changing a belt can peoduce an annoying hum from the player during tape play? I changed out a 6.1" square belt to a 6" round belt and the player has a higher humming sound. What's that about??

I see other fracture lines in that die cast metal piece. I've seen some units were all the die-cast metal just crazes and cracks for some apparent reason. Bad alloy mix? Environmental?

I have almost the same machine made by JCPenney. It plays, but it had to have a ant thing and into aux to be able to play, but mine is cutting my tape when it’s supposed to change how would I fix that?

Super glue or a thin layer of epoxy might hold it together.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that would do the trick. The belt puts a lot of lateral force on the mount.

Man, closer inspection of that part as you see it cracked all over the place. You might find somebody with a 3-D printer they can make one. I saw this video because I have a card deck there’s like 50 years old, pioneer, that I want to restore. What were you going to use for a new belt?
