Did we miss out your favourite glue? What would be in your glue box?
@zooniethelazoon3 жыл бұрын
Superglue needs moisture to cure it (and boy have you got moisture in the air by the bucketful!!) Find a small airtight food box and store them in there. Put a couple of silica gel packets to absorb moisture as well. The gel type superglue seems to last better than the thin.

@svbarryduckworth6283 жыл бұрын
I think the one metal epoxy you did show was another brand similar to JB-Weld in the US. I have used JB-weld to fix engine cases on motorcycles and other engine parts on other vehicles. It does a good job on aluminum magnesium parts that are difficult to weld or can't.take any heat deformation at all. The repairs have held oil as well as quite a bit of force on the shifter shaft of one motorcycle that had a tip-oven and wiped out the part way back before the internet and cheap used, warehouse, and aftermarket parts. The part new from the dealer was approximately the resale value of the bike. JB-weld has a fanatical following in the US because of stories like mine.

How the tides turn and the frustrations return... My wife and I have a hotel in Vietnam and we were seeing everything slowly getting better and then boom... giant flair up of covid cases that came in from India and we are locked down again well Saigon is, but the province we’re in has issued a 21 day quarantine to anyone coming from other provinces with active cases... so no more guests, and I suspect it will be a long one this time around... So, I’m with you in the frustration department! But we do live in a beautiful part of the world so we’ll enjoy the downtime. Love your videos guys keep them coming!

Tip #2... Any Glues with a Threaded Cap: Apply Petroleum Vaseline to the threads, when closing the tube, when you are finished using a portion. The Vaseline will seal the tube and prevent air from getting in. You will never have another tube of glue, dry out, if you practice this... Have fun :-)

Hi Super glue is also a very good plaster. Invented by the us military for use in the the Vietnam war. If you get a bad cut it will stick skin together and reduce blood loss.
@followtheboat3 жыл бұрын
Hi David. It was used in the Vietnam War for war wounds but it was actually discovered by accident two decades earlier during the second world war by Dr Coover, who didn't do anything with it until he worked for Kodak in the 50s. Don't worry, I had to look this up because I'd always been told it was developed by NASA! Anyway, the application of super glue during the Vietnam War saved many lives after which the FDA approved it for medical use. It's one reason why we carry it, hopefully never to be used to treat a wound!

@svbarryduckworth6283 жыл бұрын
I keep spraying soapy water on our Porta Bote and can never seem to find the air leak. What are we doing wrong? :D You left us with quite the cliff-hanger. I suppose we are all going to have to wait for the next episode to see if the patch held. I was hoping for a win today from you guys since today was a bit of a setback for us painting our bootstripe -one of our last projects before launching. The roller covers I thought were compatible with the two-pack paint turned out not to be in a big way.. Tiny bubbles in my wine may make me feel fine, but not so much in the Royal Blue finish. Tomorrow we get to sand it all down a bit and try again, or about half of it from where the roller started to come apart and wreck the finish. Rain is in the forecast every day for the next week. At least we aren't in lockdown and there are a bunch of new boats coming into the yard with interesting folks to chat with over a beer while we wait for some tiny painting windows we might be able to cram a coat of paint into.
@followtheboat3 жыл бұрын
Ah, that's a pain in the ass, James. Sorry to hear about that. Fixable, but still a pain. Great to hear you've got people coming through the yard and that you're not as restricted as we are. They've just tightened the lockdown here 😔
@svbarryduckworth6283 жыл бұрын
@@followtheboat Lots of Ausies here right now. 3-4 different boats, most getting hauled today. Don't know where the yard is going to stuff them all in. They can't go home very easily and if they did they would get stuck there. A lively bunch of folks these are. A good time to haul and do bottom work. Still having trouble with the paint today after sanding yesterday's disaster off in the morning. I'm not sure if it is my brushing thinner being old or this Interlux paint is formulated wrong. The stuff is kicking off after less than 45 minutes. I thought it was the roller last time. This time I was able to tip all the bubbles created when the cotton candy floss was being pulled up from the roller as the paint kicked off and I won't have to sand it all again. I didn't get all the way around the boat though. What a buggar. This paint is unobtainable at the moment. Maybe they pulled it all off the shelves and the one my wife found and had shipped was supposed to go back too....
@svbarryduckworth6283 жыл бұрын
I think I have it narrowed down to bad/old brushing thinner. We've been carrying it around in the boat for a few years. The stuff is proprietary to Interlux/International paints and costs a mint for a small can of it. Without it the paint didn't cook off in no time like before, and still flowed OK. I still had to tip after the roller. Fun on the hard....

Each time Sabah enforces a strict lockdown, cases plummet. Once the hospitalisations and deaths reach a manageable state, restrictions are eased. Then the figures go up again. It's a vicious circle. 11:40 I believe that you did not address the background (or reason) why there is such a difference between SE Asia and the US. From my perception this is caused by the difference in progress on vaccinating the population. SE Asia clearly lags the US (and Europe) in getting access to a sufficient amount of vaccines. This, combined with new strains of the Covid-19 virus, makes that SE Asian governments must be much more restrictive in preventing their healthcare systems to get overloaded. Or, as is the case in Malaysia, to prevent the healthcare system to get even more overloaded than it already is.
@followtheboat3 жыл бұрын
Really the thrust of the piece was to address the question "why aren't you going sailing" and to demonstrate that the USA is one country with a huge cruising territory, even in the current situation, covering thousands of miles with no borders. You make some good points though, they should not be ignored.
