The Latex-ite Airport Grade Driveway Filler Sealer is an asphalt emulsion-based low-VOC formula designed to beautify and protect your blacktop driveway. This non-skid sealer fills hairline cracks (1/8 in. or less) and is polymer fortified for added durability. Helpful hints before you seal your driveway: 1) Purchase an extra pail: any unused portion can be saved for touch-ups (running out during the project may result in color variations). 2) Flip pails overnight prior to application (it will be much easier to mix in the morning and will ensure consistency). 3) Do the project all at one time without starting and stopping. 4) Check the weather and make sure no rain is forecasted and it is at least 55 degrees F at night (a cold driveway will not allow the sealer to cure properly). 5) Check latexite.com for further tips and how-to videos. (Please note: if product is not available to order in your area, it is due to nighttime temperatures.) Expedition Money LLC

Peter, you've probably paid a high premium for the trowel grade Latex--ITE filler sealer, compared to the same size container of the latex final sealing product. Just buy one extra pail of the sealer product and create your own low cost trowel grade filler. For every two parts of latex/acrylic sealer, add two parts of clean washed sand (Playsand sold for children's sandboxes at the Home Depot) and add one part portland cement. Because the latex/acrylic sealer is water based, it will activate the portland cement in the mixture. You can thicken the mixture for wide cracks and depressions, or you can thin the mixture to a "pour grade" to pour into very thin cracks. The product dries very quickly, with minimal shrinkage and creates a rock hard bond to the base asphalt driveway. Driveway repair products have risen dramatically in recent years, along with other petroleum products and the "accessory products", such as special fillers can add drastically to the project cost. Save some money and have greater flexibility with the product.

@@nuchipippity Yes, sand and Portland cement in the proportions stated. It has a good "working time" to fill cracks, of about 40 minutes until it sets.

Any reason to not coat the entire driveway with a filler? I just bought a house with a pretty rough-condition driveway. (Old with lots of alligatoring and thinned out asphalt). Spending $300 on these is way cheaper than buying a new driveway and if it lasts for a few years, it might be worth it. Any thoughts?

These are surface treatments. And in NE weather ranging from 10 to 100 degrees, it will last 2 to 5 years. I think key is to cover, seal whenever you see a crack, to keep water from seeping under and through freezing and thawing pushing up the surfaces, like you see on the NE roads.

I was wondering that, too. I was thinking of just "parging" all of the deep alligator cracks with cement or concrete. Mine is so bad that to an ant it must look like a mountain range. 10% seal coating left. Many commentors are saying these fillers are junk, so, I'm considering parging concrete over the cracks/fissures and then just sealcoat over all of it. Would the sealcoat bond to concrete?

It had been a few years since I had it sealed. And the previous sealings were done by a company that came and sprayed on a coating that was pretty thin with no repairs beforehand. This sealer, the trowel patch, some of the coiled rubber stripping that you shove into the big cracks, and then a top coating of the colored sealer is all I’ve done since. Right now, it probably needs a bit of filler here and there and another sealing but it’s held up remarkably well

The only real way to repair HMAC driveways is to hire a crew with the right equipment. You have two options because crack seal is fugly: Remove and Replace Or Hire a contractor with a heated repaving rig, meaning they heat the asphalt up to about 300 degrees and repave it. Definitely more cost effective. HMAC means Hot Mixed Asphaltic Concrete I’m an inspector with 25 years experience.

You’re talking $5k whenever a crew and equipment come out. A seal may be fugly, but it keeps water from seeping under from freezing and thawing. And contractors rip you off because their crew don’t usually do everything promised. They never come back to fix mistakes. KZbin people who says “do it right to avoid callbacks” are the only 100 trades people who come back to fix later problems. My window company for Marvin top-of-line came back 9 months later to properly install brick moulding on 2 windows on a $63,000 job that 2 guys only took 3.5 days to do 31 windows. My $20,000 roof job (1 day with a crew) with GAF 50-year warranty architectural shingles tried to deny responsibility for a water downpour 3 weeks later. I could go on and on with “reputable” contractors promising undelivered quality.
