I have a set of matco strippers that look like the RAR that you have,I used them for about 10 years at a dealer, they worked just fine for me, also a heatshrink butt connector is/was a GM approved repair, if I had a problem with one it was my fault not the connector,I used a pair of klein type connector crimpers, one of your best vids yet sir

What if the wires are very thin and part of a thick bundle going to the ecu? Insulation is frayed, some intermittent shorts but no severed connections.

If you have an intermittent short then you have a severed wire. Sounds like it should be replaced. Thanks for watching

When soldering is required I’ll do a linesman splice and solder it and cover with heat shrink. The butt connectors with the solder inside with the heat shrink built in are pretty cool too.
