My steering used to bind now it has no powersteering at all. It had a new pump put on. Still no power steering. I pulled the steer shaft but it would move great also the pump will bubble every couple minutes when in the air turning wheels..... I used trans tune in pump now. It has a lot of metal flakes in fluid. the vehicle is an 06 ford freestar with no power steering. WIll this rack unclog if I put a little gas in it( I seen this online) if not what do you think my issues could be and any idea how many hours labor or total cost? Please help sorry for novel

One question: I accidentally polished a small segment of the anti-rust zinc coated surface of my steering rack: How do I recover the area I accidentally polished?

I didn't see adjusting of the pinion pre-load and the final pre-load (rack against pinion) on the yoke side cap nut. The rest all good.

“Step 13 get help from machining lathe operator.” I wish i were hyperbolizing / exaggerating…. Damn. well that puts a damper (no pun intended) on the plan to rebuild this steering rack and pinion.

You can do that step with a dremel or a combination of file/hacksaw. I've done all three methods. Lathe is easiest and quickest but not the only way. Of course you only need to do that step if you have worn seals. Most of the time I'm converting these racks to manual so I just cut the whole thing straight off.

@@adematthewsracinghow do you put that big metal ring back on without a lathe? In the video it looks like they use a new big metal ring that gets compressed on the edge to get fixated on the rack
@adematthewsracing Жыл бұрын
@@prostmahlzeit Generally I don't put one back on as I convert the racks from PAS to manual so it's not needed. Looks to me as though they're just pushing it on rather than doing any sort of machining on it. You could do the same with a floor mounted press or a drift and hammer especially with a bit of heat.
