In this video, we step-by-step a soft keel with a minor breach on a two year old (and very abused) Pelican Castaway.

Barry, get some 1/16"-1/8" kydex sheets. Thermoform it with a heat gun to the shape of your keel and use some 3M outdoor rated double sided tape to make a rugged and replaceable keel protector.

This, absolutely! Unfortunately, this keel was too far gone. Applying heat would have crated an unmitigated disaster. But this (what you suggested) is what EVERYONE should do the day they buy a new yak. Thanks, LB! This is a link that John (Rock Solid Fishing Club) left to eliminate ever having to perform this repair and covers what you eluded to: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYjKdXiXj8afmM0

@@BarryP I figured it was too far gone and the heat would make it worse but wasn’t sure. It’s just what crossed my mind after I seen your issue and heard lb’s solution

I'm a fat boy and just bought a pelican angler kayak last year. The beginning of this year I developed two holes underneath the seep holes where your thighs are. Dragon bottom does the same concept work?

Robert. Check my email in the "About" tab. I think I have a solution for you.

Hey did you ever figure out what to do for a rod holder when taking hooks out of fish and pictures ect. There just seems to be no place to put rod down and out of the way , usually just set it on the side or my lap and it ends up slipping or falling off...lol. I thought I saw a product along the same lines as the Rotogrip but instead of a paddle it will hold a rod , can't find it though , can't remember who makes it.
@BarryP
@BarryP 2 жыл бұрын
No sir, I did not. I just got used to settling it in kind of a cross fashion out of my camera shots. I have yet to lose a rod on this yak. Hopefully you didn't just hex me. LOL.

I’ve seen people do what black is talking about… not sure if your haul is too far gone to go with that method 🤷🏻‍♂️ but I like the inside repair approach. Let me know how it works out. And hopefully you can do a protective heal guard on the outside also!

I've got another Pelican that has the exact same repair and has been trouble-free. I pinned LB's comment. Can you do me a huge favor and move your link as a reply to LB's pinned comment? Thanks again, John!

@@BarryP you really like that pelican huh? If it was a sit on top of I’d probably go for it. I’m scared of the comfort for the amount of time I want to spend fishing

@@john081277 I did. There are a bunch of reviews out there. That's how I learned about them in the first place. Again, it boils down to budget. If you can afford a Crescent, set it and forget it! On the other comment, I have a "Seats Pt 2" coming soon!

You never once showed the damage or the repair, all you had to do was tip the boat over and show the before and after. And your video was 10 times longer than it needed to be for the tiny bit of useful information in it.

I'm sorry it was a waste of your time. I won't waste any more of yours reading an extraneous excuse.
