You did a BETTER JOB explaining it without saying a WORD!!!!😮😮🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
@xr500t4 жыл бұрын
Follow this guys directions and you can't go wrong. NOTHING needed to be said, this was perfect. All I would add is that anyone trying to power the starter the same way, just ground the starter as he did and same for the positive cable. You can use a wire with alligator clips between the solenoid and the positive cable. Just tap the solenoid connection with one of the alligator clips to activate.

thanks for taking one apart for a 1.8 civic and recording it for us to watch, pretty sure the brushes wear down and fail to contact the armature fully once warmed, disassembly would be necessary but a brush kit and plunger kit from honda would be less than 60 bucks and made in japan and these things are a hassle to replace since on the 1.8l civic they are under the intake on the rear of the engine.
@bethells864 жыл бұрын
The brushes are soldered in so he would have replaced the assembly. However the most common part to go in these is that copper L plate that is bolted to the main positive bolt. This is one of the contact plates for 12v coming in to the motor. I shall post something on it. But by and large he has covered the dismantling of it well.

Excellent video. My CR-V starts when cold, but after driving and it heats up, if I turn it off to go into a business or anyplace, when I get back in car and try to start, it won't start, and I have to wait at least an hour and a half to give it time to cool down and then it will start. Honda dealership wants insane money for a REMANUFACTURED one! This looks like just what I need. Thanks very much.

i have the same problem, i just have to leave it running. i burned out the coils or the brushes or something on having some nasty starting sessions (mix was too rich for some reason, separate fuel air problem) where i'd be holding the key down for a while to the point it started smoking now it barely works, only when cold, the voltage required just isn't there when it's hot. you can get one from a junkyard pretty cheap.think getting a whole starter motor instead of this fiddly task for the same price is a better option.

1. Yes, he uses his feet as a vice. God only knows how he's holding the camera. ;) lol 2. He's demonstrating how to take apart and rebuild a starter. Given the choice of doing a demo with a new, clean starter, and doing it with an old dirty carbon-filled starter that requires it, I think he chose wisely. Especially with the feet involved! 3. He's selling the brush holder replacements at leeautoelectric.com, as posted in the description. I imagine he grabbed a new starter off the shelf to do the demo. If they/he's not a working mechanic, it would be silly to ask around the neighborhood for the appropriate car to demo the part replacement. He's doing this for people who buy the part. Of course!
@spankrobot4 жыл бұрын
Ok, that explains why the brushes and brush springs were retracted when he "disassembled" the starter! A new brush assy was already installed, but the brushes and brush springs were not yet engaged as they would be after you install the armature into the brush holder.

A new brush holder was already installed before he took it apart. Notice that the brushes are not yet "sprung" (they're not sticking out of their holes) b/c the brush springs had not been pushed down to engage the brushes against the installed armature.

If you can see the brushes, they are not fully installed. The replacement part ships like this. Once the rotor is in place, the springs are pushed down to engage the brushes.
