How to repair the Suction Control Valve of a common rail diesel engine, MitsubishiTriton L200

This video describes the process to replace or repair the Suction Control Valve of a common rail diesel engine. Specifically for the Mitsubishi L200/ Triton/ Sportero, Nissan and Toyota common rail diesel engines. Included is a list of common fault codes. The working and purpose of the Suction Contol Valve (SCV) is also explained.
This a fairly simple operation and can be done with fairly low mechanical experience.

Thanks. I replaced one of these on a 2009 MN Triton. The hardest part was getting the bottom hex bolt. A long arm ball end hex and a pair of pliers for torque ended up getting it.

Do I NEED to polish the piston and sleeve ?

I polish both. The aim is to get both back to a bright polished finish to get a smooth as possible action. If you look closely , you'll see both is scoured and need polishing.
