Shipped to D-lab in need of noise repair. Of course, one thing led to another. Many hours later, it came back to life, maybe better than the day it was made. Sounds super. Great project. I have decided that my 2020 vision is go back to amp repair and boutique building. Yes, may be less income, however much more relaxing work and quicker turn around. More great things to come from D-Lab electronics.

My comment isn’t about the amp or its repair cause that’s always perfectly done by D-Lab, it’s going to be about the vocals. Wow I was impressed. I wished he had kept going. That was great.

Seasons greetings to D-Lab.. Nice repair, It would be great if you did more guitar amp videos. I have learned a lot about electronics from watching you repair transmitters, power supply's or whatever else ends up on your bench. I watch them all, you always attack problems with logic, and usually win the battle. Regardless of subject, your video's need more Marcia! (can she learn guitar!)

Terry, Great amp! Well designed and thought out. Excellent idea to add that master volume. PLEASE though, keep up with the Ham radio stuff and other vacuum tube radios and such. Hi Marsha....you are much appreciated too!!! What's the latest on the other property? Wishing you many blessings with the new members of the family!

Few questions... Sometimes on mod/repairs like this it'd be nice to actually give a list of components used. For instance the tone caps you replaced I can't see the brand? What 'type' of metalized resistors did you use? What value of current shunt R did you use? [probably not a very imortant question] . Anyway, you get the gist of what I'm asking. I'd love a bit more documentation:) kinda like you mentioned in this vid after performing the Fromel type mods. Thanks bud. Nice video. Definately helpful. I sure miss point to point wiring! Amps, even tube amps, have way too much crap going on these days to make them very much fun to work on!!

Nice and clean modification, thanks Terry for making cool videos... Which way is safer to amp and its user? 1- using variac for master volume 2- modding the amp in your way for master volume... Thanks...
@greg4673
@greg4673 Жыл бұрын
A Variac changes the line voltage. It should only be used to test an amp if you suspect short circuits, or to adjust the line voltage in a vintage amp or foreign voltage amp. A master control volume adjusts the grid circuit of an output section of an amp [signal path or negative bias]. Both are benign. If you use a variac in any great way to adjust the output power of an amp you can quickly bring your DC power supplies far enough out of spec to negatively affect the actual healthy performance of your vacuum tubes. So using Line Voltage to act as a "master volume", probably not a good idea.
