Oh wow, this plagued me since I got my used g5. I still need to pull out the assembly to apply fixative but I did find the pin laying beside the shifter, and after dropping it down the front of the housing around it and having to pull everything off to fish it out from under the drivers side carpet, managed to fit it in place for now. Thanks for this video!

The small butterfly switch only activates the selenoid in the steering column. If the switch is not depressed, you cannot get you key out, however you can turn the ignition forward to engage the starter, start the engine.

It's called designed obsolescence or planned. Design flaw might insinuate that it was an accident. Nice video.

My girlfriends 07 cobalt started to do this intermittent where the shifter is stuck in park with break pedal pressed. All fuses and brake lights work. I showed her the trick where you can press the knob with a screw driver which will allow the car to shift but now a P0705 code or something close to that (cant remember off top of head) is coming up. its like a shift position sensor or something. She needs a new car regardless soon but im trying to keep it going until this lock down is over. Is that code coming because I shifted the car (bypassing the break pedal switch) I cleared the code. started car, it shifted properly using break pedal. but the light came back on after about 10 mins. I am worried if the sensor fails the car could go into limp mode?

That's exactly what is going on with mine! Thanks for the video! But how do I fix the black piece that moves out of the way when the pin moves down? The part that moves when you pump the break.

There is a service bulletin on that problem. Owners who may have the issue can get it repaired at no cost for up to 15 years from the vehicle manufactured date regardless of mileage at no cost. www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/UCM480458/CSC-10057641-7601.pdf

Any idea how to deal with the shift indicator? The orange highlighter is stuck in Reverse yet the transmission shifts through the gears like normal. I have a 2010 Cobalt 2LT coupe.
@patricklozon18207 жыл бұрын
I do believe that is low tech string that connects to the indicator that is probably broke. Best approach would be a junk yard visit and grab a replacement shifter.

There’s a warranty on that. You’re dealership should replace it.

Hi Amy, This is pretty old post. Personally never had much luck with dealerships and their warranties. Lots of excuses and attempts to dip in my pocket, qualifying their coverage based on KM or age of vehicle. Regardless, if you can get one to actually fix it, more power to ya! Thanks for the interest!

Patrick Lozon yeah they don’t want to fix the other recall where the power steering gets extremely tight. I’m ready to just trade in my car to be honest. To many problems !

Well, my guess it's usually water getting in wreaking havoc. Make sure the fuse box in the engine compartment is sealed tight. Seen a few electrical problems on this car. My door lock buttons were crap, had to replace them with new ones from amazon (easy fix). If you left your window open to the rain, the locks would go crazy. When it comes to the power steering, check the fuses first (lots of videos on this). If it's blowing the fuse, the motor is pulling too many amps and that needs to be replaced. It''s just a motor under the dash, not so bad. Shit wears out. These cars were built on the cheap side with parts from Mexico. All about the budget ride. So it's a little hard to complain about it given what it costs - been pretty good to me so far. Cheap on gas, too. If you're not handy best to find an honest mechanic and tell the dealers to shove it.

Check the fuses for the EPS (power steering motor) first. May be a cheap fix. (Lots of youtubes on that). If you find it continues to blow fuses, its probably the motor pulling too many amps. Changing that is easy - see this kid's video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enXamn17rZuJj6M (be cracks me up). It's a pretty simple fix. If it gets into the power steering module, well that could be expensive because it has to be programmed. (Which as absolute BS as I am a programmer and this "setting of parameters" is simple crap. But ALL the car dealers lock their stuff down - Tesla one of the worst.). Have fun.

Youll need to remove the console to see its six screws i believe The pin could be lodged in there Otherwise it may be your cable starts there on shifter and goes thru firewall visible under fuel lines
