That process didn't look half bad. In other older vehicles I would have said that it was so much easier that it was worth it to spend the money for a whole new control arm. I would definitely consider doing this to avoid replacing my aluminum control arm with a stamp steal version.

Agreed, the aluminum arm is so much nicer. It is worth the time to do. If you get friendly with your local dealer they might even let you borrow the tool 🙏😉 you do need a heavy duty impact tho.

I can't ffind d the CRIMPING Tool used to flare the Ball Joint - I cant not find it online and Autozone or Harbour tool not sell The link you put not there I just bent out areas but not nice like you did Any information may help all that see this . same for tahoe 2016 ? a mechanics once told me” aluminum control arm can’t withstand hard pressing so you need to buy new ctrl arms with ball joints” is that accurate?

Can you make a Video Explaning the Differences of Lower Control Arms ? ie: Cast Iron , Aluminum and Stamped Steel ? and are they interchangeable ? i know also Different Knuckes were used : Cast Iron Knuckle and Aluminum Knucle

Mines not clunking it's creaking over bumps and turning is that normal for these I've never seen a bill joint creak without play or clunk?? Any thoughts also I have a 2016 my arms are steel built 12/05/15 so idk what gives lol... Max tow package with factory duratracs

I didn't have any luck using this method on cast iron lower control arms. Hours of chiseling only to cave in the center of the old ball joint with the press. I bit the bullet and bought new lower control arms, well worth the hassle. Aluminum arms must be more malleable

I think this method is only intended for the aluminum control arms but not 100% sure. The aluminum is definetely more malleable.

I'm just guna replace whole arm upper and lower plus tie rods ... And you can get the aluminum ones aftermarket btw mine are steel but it's 2016 cuz built in December unfortunately I could go aluminum but don't want to chance not fitting

I have a 2018 GMC Sierra. My ball joints have grease zerks. How do I grease them properly? I just found the right grease and gave them each four pumps. No grease came out....

It might need more. I usually grease them until it starts to overflow. YMMV

Alluminum control arms will worth with steel knuckles but you have to make sure you get the correct knuckles designed to work with the alluminum control arms because the steel control arms have a differently shaped balljoint.

The problem is they used different sized ball joints so I don't believe it is a direct swap. I'm going to do a little research on this for you

We were fortunate enough to have access to a dealers tool set. The tool was over $500 I think. There may be some aftermarket ones out there that will work.

Thank you for the quick response! My Father and I came up with a solution...we ended up grinding down an old railroad spike to make a nice flat punch. we pressed in the ball joint and crimped it with the spike-punch and a sledgehammer... sounds janky but it worked really well 😂😅. They are serviceable but most shops don't want to do the work. You need the GM tool I believe.
