Back up cameras are very a convenient accessory but they tend to be a bit fragile. They can become inoperative when subjected to collision, corrosion and even slamming an SUV's hatch down too hard. In this video, the vehicle owner and I show you how we replaced the back up camera in his SUV.

So I was a able to get the plastic part down but I broke the top clips now I’m trying to inscrew the bolts where the tail lights are but one of the bolts are weathered and stripped is there a way to get it off with out getting the tail lights out?

Hi - Thanks for watching! You can usually get replacement clips from auto parts stores. I'm not sure about the tail light situation, but I would think you would have to remove it eventually to replace a bulb. If you can get a flat blade screwdriver or similar tool under the head of the stripped bold and pry while you turn the wrench you might be able to remove it.

Thanks for the video .. does all the factory backup camera has screw to secure it like the one in video? Because I wonder when we wash car and wipe that accidentally , did I move it at different angle? If so it won't be accurate when we rely on it to park .. so they all should he pretty tight and secure right? Thanks for the video again

No. The camera is fixed at a pre-determined angle for the model....that's why you change the mounting bracket for the original on your car: To maintain that angle.

@@WrenchinUpwithJimBates Thanks! I completely replaced the hatch, backup light and license plate lights on this model. Found out the electricity is wired together and the only thing that works after is the license plate lights, so there must be a short in the wiring somewhere. Also, those two clips that we took out made the body piece a little loose when put back together.

Why do you have to remove the inner panel to get to the camera? You can just remove the hatch lift.

It is impossible to access the camera without removing the outer fascia....... Which is held onto the hatch within.....access to the nuts can only be accessed AFTER the inner panel is removed. Dear God.

By not replacing the clips you leave holes for water and dust will get in and cause rust

Then why not tape over those two holes with a piece of duct tape.?.... Even with brand new clips...moisture & dust gets in...most cameras fail due to that fact. (They are only there to speed up assembly in the factory, as was explained in the video. GGMS.)
