How to replace A/C evaporator? Honda Civic 2016 - 2021 model

Honda gave me an estimate of $1800 to replace my AC evaporator. This should be covered under warranty… Anyways, I wanted to see how to fix it, but it’s gonna be too hard for me to do. Thank you for the video. Very detailed.

Honda had a recall on a ac part that i replaced for free but the air still didn’t blow cold so they checked and said it was the evaporator they wanted to charge me 2,500 which i could not pay n wont pay so ima try to get it fixed somewhere else ima see what firestone says

I have a 2017 civic that i already reolaced the evaporator on in 2020. Took it in since i heard about the extended warranty on the condenser and compressor, service center called me this morning and said my evaporator neede to be replaced too along with a freon recharge. In total it'll be around $2k and some change for the evap and freon ​@albert5624

I have a noise from the evaporator like a fan rattle (it is not the blower). Is it common?

@@taki38 nope, it might be you’re pipe, evaporator housing, expansion valve that are not properly insulated. in some cases, recirculation motor and airmix control motor creates unusual sound. or you’re flapper. it is also potential of producing noise near evaporator. noise can travel through the wind, so the sound you hear from evaporator might be coming from flapper or a motor along the air duct.

Definitely yes Mam because of refrigerant mixes to the air inside your car plus dust and all other fumes that easily trap on your evaporator. Refrigerant oil catches more dirt which makes your drain hose to get clogged. Sadly, inhaling refrigerant is dangerous to your health even this new formulated refrigerant 134a still not good for your lungs.

Sir ito din ang na diagnose na issue sa 2109 Civic Sport namin. Meron bang kailangan i-reset sa system kasi natanggal sa battery ng matagal habang ginagawa?

Sir initialization lang po need nyo gawin. Just drive your car not more than 45kph for atleast half kilometer with ac off, headlight off, seatbelt on. all malfunction indicator light and warning alert should go off. if not, there is something wrong.

Sr 5 years na civic ko same model. Kelangan ba ipaservice ko na ac para malinis? Nagdadalawang isip ako ipabaklas dashboard. And sa tingin niyo po may leak na ac ko? Pag outside temp malamig like madaling araw, then naka set sa 23°C ac temp ung isang vent sa gitna bumubuga ng warm air. Pag 22°C below lumalamig. May pagkahilaw lang sa isang vent. Pero pag mainit sa labas, kahit 24°C ac temp ok na ko malamig na sakin. Pero naobserve ko rin na pag nag aaccelerate ako lumalig ac pag low rpm parang nagiging fan like intermittent cooling sya. Pag idle parang malamig naman. May problema na po kaya ac ko like leaking? O kelangan lang po ipaservice sa honda dito sa pinas? Yung mahinang hissing naobserve ko pag unang open and minsan pag tumatakbo akala ko tlg normal yung kasi nung bago ko pa nabili to parang may ganun na. Parang same tunog sa ref. Ty po!

Yung hissing sound pa lang po ay symptom na ng insufficient refrigerant. That sound is coming from expansion valve kapag may dumaraan na hangin instead of refrigerant. Safe naman po kung magpapalinis kayo ng AC sa honda. Expert po ang honda dyan. para matingnan nila kung may leak nga ang evaporator nyo..

@@generescudero9492 Akala ko normal lang ung hissing parang sound lang pag ino.on ung ac same sa bahay. Dapat po pala pag on ng ac ng civic lamig and sound lang ng fan na umiikot ang naririnig ko? And wala dapat kahit na mahina na hissing? Kaya as much as possible iniiwasan ko magpacleaning ng ac and twice a year ako nagpapalit ng cabin filter para hindi muna baklasin dashboard ko. Takot nga ko dalhin sa labas na mga shop dahil jan sa pagbaklas ng dashboard baka may mabasag na mga lock o hindi mabalik ng maayos tapos baka magstart magkalampag o ano. kaya naghahanap din ako na shop na may experience na sa pag baklas ng civic fc aside sa casa na ac specialist talaga, walang ibang inaayos kundi ac lang ng sasakyan. Pero ipacheck ko na muna sa casa to sr kung mababa ba freon baka cleaning lang o ano. Ty po

Hi sir, ano po symptoms ng evaporator issue? Honda civic '17 model din po gmit ko dito dubai. Sa unang bukas AC meron hissing sound maririnig and medyo hirap lamig after mabilad sa pataktak na araw ngaun. Mga after 30mins kpg natakbo n ska lumalamig. Pero sa gabi ok nman kahit naka idle lng iwanan malamig pa rin.

Sir kung may hissing sound insufficient ang amount ng refrigerant ng AC system. Sir kpag nabilad po ng matagal sa sobrang init ng araw, buksan nyo muna po ang mga windows nyo para makalabas yung mainit na hangin normal lang po na mahirapan lumamig kahit itong kotse ko sir ganon din and even other cars. Symptom po ng evaporator leak ay AC poor cooling, at yung tubig na lumalabas sa drain hose ng evaporator housing ay diluted with pag oil. Sir kpag nagpakarga ka ng refrigerant make sure na 430-450 grams lang 15-20ml na pag oil with dye para kung may leak man anywhere in the system ay madaling makikita. Minimum of 30minutes po ang vacuum bago magrefill ng refrigerant. Kung hindi nawala ang hissing sound, replace expansion valve po.

dito marami po dito sa UAE lalo na dito sa dubai isearch nyo lang po al-futtaim honda branches. kpag po may kakaibang amoy sir maaari ngang may leak ang evaporator mo at AC refrigerant ang nalalanghap mo. hindi maganda sa kalusugan yan sir. Use only AC machine to ensure correct amount of refrigerant to be refill in the system.

@@generescudero9492 sir, nagpa diagnose ako AC last month eh hatol sa evaporator po at low freon. Pero ang sbi, dagdagan mo n daw nila freon tas obserbahan ko. First 3 weeks nwala tas itong week n nga ayun na bumalik ulit ung mga issues n nabanggit ko po sainu plus ung parang may gatas gatas konti ung water na nalabas sa silong. Medyo mahal po b tlga evaporator? Sbi po good pa daw compressor, condenser at expansion valve. Possible evaporator lng po tlga may tama?

Sir good day din!..Sir mahuna kase ang pagkagawa ng evaporator lalo na ng civic 2017. Pakicheck mo yung tubig na tumutulo sa drain hose mo sa pagstart mo ng kotse mo, AC On sa umaga. Sahurin mo ng cup. kapag may nakita ka oil sa ibabaw ng sinahod mong tubig, it means my leak evaporator mo. next, wala ba leak sa condenser mo? gumagana ba ng tama ang fan motors mo? dalawang stage ang mag-operate yan sir 1 fan low at fan high.

i had the same issue and honda refused to replace it under warranty cause i was not using their original cabin filter. i was infact using a bosch activated charcoal filter which is way better quality than their stupid overpriced cabin filter. this has cost me a bomb to get it fixed outside. moral of the story is Dealerships will find any small thing to get away from their warranty so just follow and pay for their overpriced service scheduled and ensure u change whatever as recommended in ur service book to avoid becoming a victim like me.

I am sad to know that Sir/Madam but being a dealership technician for many years i have never allowed to void warranty just because of different brand of A/C filter. In our dealership, the customer is always right. If you still feel disappointed please feel free to call honda dealership of your branch and look for customer relations officer and discuss your concern. They will surely fix this issue.
