I dont even have any of these 90's boards... I am just here because I am happy you posted a new video!!

Fast hands, man. You make it look easy. If my soldering skills were about ten times what they were, I'd consider attempting this.

Honestly anyone can do this one. Solder, iron, and wick. Trust us. Very easy! And you’ll never get good at it if you don’t try. ☺️

Easy to follow instructions. Very useful for those with CPS2 boards. I was just about to say "record the date you changed the battery" and then you did. Nice!

Got a Street Fighter Alpha 3 a couple months ago. Had the battery ordered. Finally got around to do it today. All went smooth. Mine still had capcom seals on the screw holes. The original battery was still installed. It was a Maxell battery with a date code of 94/06. It still tested at 3.67v. Strange thing is the date code of battery is a year older then the release date of SF Alpha 3.

What kind of battery type is the Capcom CPS2 battery? is it alkaline or lithium? Where is the Killswitch you're talking about that will delete the ROM game code you mentioned?
@TheCanadianArcade4 жыл бұрын
The battery we used is a SAFT Lithium 1/2AA with wire leads. 3.6 Volts. When the CPS2 game boots it does a security key check to see if it can run. This security key is stored in a memory location that is kept alive via this battery. If the battery dies, the memory gets lost and thus results in the game not booting because of the missing key. The roms are actually OK, its just a piece of code that runs and checks for the security key. Infiikey solution that someone mentioned in the comments is a good solution if the battery has died and bricked the board. maybe we'll do a review of Infinikey someday

@@TheCanadianArcade yes making a video review would be nice about if the battery has died what to do and how to fix the security key.

More guts than I have lol, I have 14 cps2 boards, i usually change my batteries every 5 years but I would never do it without a piggy back battery in place before i desolder the old, can't risk it, back in the early days i was crapping me self especially when it came to my mint Japanese super street fighter 2 x and Japanese X-MEN COTA boards i hated doing those 2 the most as both are my favourite and worth a fortune now, I know that these days there are ways to revive a suicided board with infinity key or phoenix and lucky I have the equipment to do that but back when i bought those boards in 1996 there was no back up one slip up and it was a paper weight lol, funnily enough I've just redone my xmen and turned it on to be greeted with a white or purple screen, honestly thought Id messed up but turned out the connectors to the A board were dirty.

No infinikey?
@TheCanadianArcade4 жыл бұрын
While the Undamned InfiniKey is a great product, it may one day become unavailable, where as a 1/2AA Battery is an industry standard and more readily available.

The Canadian Arcade not if you buy one. Then you’ll always have it
@TheCanadianArcade4 жыл бұрын
@@OHTHANKY0U definitely an option. Perhaps we'll get one some day and do the install. Battery replacement is the lowest common denominator solution for now. If we had a bricked board, we'd most likely go Infinikey!

30 seconds - 1 minute is a myth. You have 10+ minutes, usually 20-30 minutes before there's any concern. Take your time, don't panic.
@TheCanadianArcade4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah if you notice we do amend that in screen.
@skeletorment4 жыл бұрын
I think battery replacement in of itself is kind of obsolete now that the Infinikey replaces the need for batteries altogether. I guess it's good if you want all original hardware, but if you swap batteries it's not exactly being kept original. Maybe for those without decent soldering skills. I don't know.
@TheCanadianArcade4 жыл бұрын
Infinikey is only as relevant as its being produced or available. Its also a fair bit more expensive then the battery. Plus, globally, not everyone has access to infinikey where as these batteries are quite ubiquitous in comparison.
@Megalocade2 жыл бұрын
If the game is still encrypted with suicide battery in place its original and will hold its value, if you want to go to real lengths then those maxell batteries are still sold today and look exactly the same as the old ones so nothing changes and the board retains its value, where you loose resell value is when the board is phoenixed or a conversion, when ever i change out the first original battey i keep it in a sealed bag and sell it with the board as hardcore collectors like it.
