I'm gonna replace my clockspring but I have no steering wheel controls only a horn, is there anything to watch for there? Or is it just less wires? I'm in BC Canada up here they range trom 430.00 to 900.00 new

Hey Robbie, where did you rent the puller? I got one from O'reillys and the hooks wouldnt fit in the pull holes on the steering wheel.

Good video and I agree auto zone doesn’t know what the heck they are doing even up here in Massachusetts, my question is that wire ribbon that was on the old clock spring seems to not be there once you show the wires on the new clock spring. Does that wire ribbon just get thrown away with the old part and not used again? I’m getting ready to replace my clock spring tomorrow, really appreciate you posting this Thank you.

Sorry for the late reply. It's been a few years since I posted this, but if I remember correctly it peels off the connector. And then you have to match up the new one.

Well crap when I changed the steering shaft in mine i accidentally spun the wheel and im pretty sure i broke muly clockspring because when i turn i hear the clicking and i have an airbag light. Looks like ill be doing this.

There’s literally an arrow that aligns the steering wheel. And by no means do you need a steering wheel puller. Just yank on it and tilt it and it comes right off.

If I remember correctly, at the time mine wouldn't simply yank off. But if it does, that's great 👍

how did you know your clockspring needed to be replaced? I think mine is causing my "service air bag" light to come on, but hate to spend that much money without knowing if it is bad or not.

thats how mine started, but it was intermittent at first. Then I slowly lost all my steering wheel controls, row by row. Get the part from a parts website, like parts warehouse. You will pay cost instead of a fixed rate that an autopart store will have

Robbie Hackney My “Service Airbag” light keeps intermittently popping up on my dash as well. I’m guessing it’s my clock spring as whenever I turn left it goes off and when I turn right it comes back on. Is that anything like what yours was doing?

I just hit my steering wheel from the backside with my palms on both sides and it popped right off?

when I put my steering wheel back on I torqued it down with a 1/2 drive and when I removed it a second time to install my new airbag clock it popped out with just hand force? I don't see it as a problem, its a steering wheel, its not meant to be under a big work load.

Is it necessary to remove the battery terminals for this?

Thermalstorm no, but I highly recommend it. In case the air bag wants to go off from discharge Just a safety precaution.

Robbie Hackney thanks for the reply! Finally got into her the other night and sure enough, after opening the clock spring, I noticed some bent and folded ribbon cables. Too much to replace. I'll live without the steering controls and Srs. I thought the doorman replacement would be cheaper .
