Shopping List for Replacing a Kitchen Sink and Faucet:
- 18-gauge stainless-steel sink [amzn.to/2wH29Yf]
- Single-lever kitchen faucet [amzn.to/2K2TkRe]
- Rubber cap [amzn.to/2QWjQMy] with stainless-steel hose clamp, for sealing pipe end
- Plumber's putty [amzn.to/2ZdM5JO], used to water-seal fittings
- PVC pipe and assorted fittings [amzn.to/2QYljlB], for making up the drainpipe
Tools List for Replacing a Kitchen Sink and Faucet:
- Adjustable wrench [amzn.to/2WQpx45], used to disconnect water-supply lines
- Pliers [amzn.to/2WVu05F], for tightening threaded fittings
- Screwdriver [amzn.to/2KEX5fj]
- Putty knife [amzn.to/2WT3vxF], for freeing sink from countertop
- PVC pipe handsaw [amzn.to/2Kwix5W], used to cut plastic pipe
- Nut driver [amzn.to/2wGym1J], for tightening hex-head fasteners
- PVC cutter[amzn.to/2KAbWYj], used to cut plastic pipe
Steps for Replacing a Kitchen Sink and Faucet:
1. Close the hot- and cold-water shutoff valves under the sink.
2. Use an adjustable wrench to disconnect the water-supply lines from the valves.
3. Disconnect the trap from the sink's drainpipe using pliers.
4. Loosen the screws that hold the sink to the underside of the countertop.
5. Slide a putty knife under the rim of the sink to break its bond with the countertop.
6. Unplug the garbage disposer, and pull the sink from the countertop.
7. Place the new faucet onto the new sink. Tighten the locking nut to secure the faucet to the sink deck.
8. Slip the counterweight onto the spray hose, then connect the spray hose to the faucet.
9. Cut out and remove the existing PVC standpipe and trap for the garbage disposer.
10. Seal the old drainpipe with a rubber cap. Tighten the cap's stainless-steel hose clamp with a nut driver.
11. Set the new sink into place, then from below, use a screwdriver to tighten each mounting clip.
12. Connect the water-supply lines to the hot- and cold-water shutoff valves.
13. Put plumber's putty around the flange on the garbage disposer's throat fitting, then press the fitting down into one of the sink's drain holes.
14. From below the sink, slip two adapters and a lock ring onto the throat fitting.
15. Use a screwdriver to tighten the three screws on the lock ring.
16. Install a gasket and basket strainer into the remaining drain hole. Tighten the lock nut from below with pliers.
17. Scrape away the excess putty that squeezes out from beneath the throat fitting and basket strainer, and save for reuse on another job.
18. Remove the knockout plug from the side of the disposer using a screwdriver.
19. Lift the disposer onto the lock ring and tighten with a screwdriver.
20. Run PVC pipe from the sink trap to the tailpiece that protrudes down from the sink's basket strainer.
21. Install a T-fitting and PVC pipe to span from the drainpipe to the disposer. Trim the pipe to length, if necessary, with a PVC cutter.
22. Connect the drainpipe to the T-fitting with a compression fitting.
23. Tighten the two screws on the yoke to secure the opposite pipe end to the side of the disposer.
24. Connect the discharge hose from the dishwasher to the port protruding from the disposer.
25. Plug in the disposer's power cord, then open the hot- and cold-water shutoff valves.

I always appreciate these videos, but man nothing and I mean nothing works this smoothly in real life. I fixed a leaky bathroom sink handle yesterday, took me forever, and I had a hardware store run mid-job. Must have said GD and MF a dozen times each! In the end I did get the job done thanks to these videos!

Nice video! Good info! I needed help with having to get 32-year-old PVC drain pipes to line up to a new, molded-in, Corian sink, with the drain holes cut in a totally different location. I just hope that the PVC joints are NOT GLUED, like I've seen in other videos from other mid-80s builds! With MY luck, they probably are.

Came here after my sink got installed to see the process. Something told me to do it. I'm disappointed that I didn't get silicon added, that he didn't knockout the dishwasher hole for the disposal, and that he left the job completely incomplete because he couldn't make the piping work and told me that somebody would need to cut out the whole piping. That was false. I had another guy complete the piping part in 40 mins. I gave the previous guy the benefit of the doubt because I was going from 7 inches of depth to 10. But the guy that completed the piping said that piping never works out of the gate and the increase of depth shouldn't be too much of a problem. And one more complaint for the original guy, he didn't clamp down the sink. Not the worst thing though. On a funny note, I got that exact faucet displayed in the video or very similar to it. My can be activated though by a touch.

The disposal unit is 4x heavier then the sink, imagine trying to lock it in place upside down? Having the sink flailing around because it’s light, possibly scratching it or damaging it. It just takes 2 seconds to place that thing in place afterwards

I would suggest ALWAYS using an air gap for the dishwasher.

how do you adapt new faucets with half inch pex to 3/8 inch hoses on the new faucet .All new faucets come with 3/8th inch hoses and the cold works fine but the hot one just keeps leaking no matter what I do to the adapter that lowes sold me .I tried the adapter without a washer and with a washer but it continues to leak .Sometimes it takes a couple of days other times only after i use the dish washer .I am at my wits end with this thing

Funny that he uses a screw stick as a screwdriver for all his clamps, when he can pull the bit out and use the barrel as a nut driver on the clamps. SOOO much easier than using a flat tip screwdriver.

What's wrong with just shutting off the water outside before it even comes into the house? Is that wrong for some reason?

Great work except that any drain line left unless, needs a permanent cap per city code.

How do you know what the local plumbing code requires at that location? Local plumbing codes are not universal across all cities in the United States.

Good point Cortez but, a glued plug or some form of permanent cap would be required by most if not all.
