How to replace a lift gate release switch on a 2007 Toyota 4Runner

Please try this before you replace anything.My 2006 4Runner stopped opening,so I put in a new handle .No luck.I took the motor out and had it checked by a mechanic. It was good. I then found the fix on a KZbin video. The motor had gotten out of sinc with the electronics. You unplug all 5 electric plugs under the inside cover of the tailgate and leave them for 30 seconds.Then plug them back.. Next take the negative battery cable off for 30 seconds,and then hook it back. If yours is like mine it will be reset and work. A simple fix that had me pulling out my hair.

Wouldn't disconnecting the negative battery cable goof up some of the computer memory or settings? Thinking of trying this before buying a new switch, but I'm a little skeptical. Not a trust thing... just remembering having to supply an alternate electical flow with a 2011 Jeep, when changing the battery, so's its computer memory wouldn't get goofy.

How do you determine if the switch and not the latch

Great question, in my case the switched actually still worked it was just all melted and would get sticky goop all over your fingers, so I just wanted to change the switch.

What was your symptom to replace this? I have a 2004 and a press the button on the hatch to open the hatch and nothing happens. Is it the switch or actuator?

The reason I replaced mine was it was melting from all the exposure to the elements I suppose.

Hi. When do you reinstall the screws you lost? Before snapping the trim back in place?

Yes, you would put the screws in before you snap the trim back in place.
