@Philscbx9 ай бұрын
I was just going to say,, any corrosion, around valve stem hole,, game over if not removed... and treated. Typically the bead zone of rim also has corrosion. Tire removed, scrub tire bead with wire wheel of embedded rust scale in the rubber of bead, and if present, it will allow slow leak. Cheers

@@THEMOWERMEDIC1 Right, of course not on new wheels. The point is strictly when corrosion is present on steel rims and not removing it first. So those who attempt repair, the cure is simply restore rim fully, the bead zone and stem hole, then recoat with good rust preventive measure. Otherwise if step is skipped, some will simply have an ongoing bad day,, and it's a crisis out on the road. Or your lawn looks like crap, all scalped down to dirt on one side every path with tire leaking. Cheers

@maraudostrogoth7473 жыл бұрын
That's pretty cool. I've changed a lot of tires and valve stems in the past. This would have come in handy a bunch of times. The only thing that I would have done differently is to check the hole to make sure there aren't any sharp edges causing the stem to fail. You could lightly dress the edges of the hole with a small round file or a bit of emory cloth.
@THEMOWERMEDIC13 жыл бұрын
I’ve never in my 43 years of life ever seen anyone dress a valve stem hole.
@tinamcgarrah77942 жыл бұрын
Maybe a wipe down of the hole with a shop towel then a little silicone spray lube on the towel to coat the hole for ease of slide through of valve stem. BUT I personally wouldn't remove any of the holes inner circumference with anything, actually you could be causing more of a chance for a leak there. Just my 2 cents worth , a man can do whatever he wants with his own property though!
@oh8wingman2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate what you say but I would be more concerned with shards of rubber and possible corrosion on the back side of the hole breaking the seal. It might be an idea to make a small scraper out of an old Allen key that could be inserted through the hole so the back side could be scraped clean before installation.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Changed a lot of tires, and done a lot of leak repairs involving replacing the valve stem and having to clean the valve stem hole. More so with aluminum wheels than steel, but sometimes there’s a sharp burr on the steelies that will slice your new stem and reintroduce that leak you just repaired. I’ve even had to drill out the TR 413 style hole for the larger .625 TR 415 style valve stem where rust had eaten the hole edge. While this would be handy in the field, I’d rather break the bead in the shop. You just know someone out there is going to ram that hook through a tube and either push the stem into the wheel or destroy the tube.
@JesseCase3 жыл бұрын
This could be a life saver when needing to replace the stem on a tractor tire filled with liquid ballast. With this tool you want have to worry about draining the tire first or losing any of your liquid and having to refill afterwards. I'm very glad I learned about this nifty apparatus!
@don2deliver2 жыл бұрын
This is the only thing I could see that this would be useful for. But the only liquid filled tractor tires that I ran into had tubes, not valve stems. Maybe heavy equipment with a flat that starting to unseat the bead would cause it to drop more.

The seated bead on an ages old Mower tire and rusty old rim can be a daunting challenge and in most cases the mower tires are cheapo nylon so if U try to break the bead the tires rip and tear. In most cases a real shop vs a home owner consumer... A shop will put a tube in the tire we don't want the thing coming back in 2 weeks. Also that is to say how many times a shop will replace a leaking stem and then the tire starts leaking someplace else. 43 years of hind sight is crystal clear.

Back in c. 1970, We had a tool to "inject' a new valve stem without removing the rim. We did not like it because it often left the minor bit of the valve base in the wheel. It was a single adapter to the air inflation pressure hose, nothing else. Super quick and easy. Nothing at all the labour intensive this tool is. 1. 2. 3. Pop it was done. As rubber rots, we preferred to install a full metal stem for life. At the time Vandals were simply kicking the valve stems to "kick the air out of the wheels'. Full metal stems prevented that (especially on police cars).

I did this repair on a honda- better to break the bead. Use a car jack and put it under a second car and expand the jack under the second car. It worked great. The valve has a large sensor and can't be removed from the outside. To re-seat the bead, use 2-3 ratchet straps to keep the pressure around and then use the compressor to fill it up. Works great. Deflate after you seat the bead so you can get the ratchet straps off.

You’re 100 miles from nowhere on a trail. You come across a stump and a stub knock your valve stem off, you are not better off breaking the bead because you have nowhere to do it. That’s where this tool comes in and shines beacon in the night.

I had this problem recently. Turned out someone had installed a tube instead lol. Sweet video!

I can do the same results with a pair of vice grips and heat new stem up in a pan of boiling water, grease the new stem and force it down into rim with vice grip. Works every time for me...try it.

All you need is a valve tool or a pair of side cutters and you can pull the stem out
@XA-JJKILLERs3 жыл бұрын
That tool makes the hook not needed and will pull even the high pressure valves

I had the same issue with the water pressure tank in my well at home and followed this procedure with the shown tool and That avoided having to replace the tank that would have been about $500, so Thank you!!! 😎😃👍

This tool has been around for many decades, I have one that uses air and it is fast and easy and when I use it people stand there in amazement. My tool will do the large or small valve stem. I did not have the tool to extract the old one but as a Tool and Die Maker I think that is a good idea and I will make one..!

Why did that hooked extractor make me think of dental work?

I've done tires for over 10 years. Never thought there was actually a way to do it. Cuts out several steps. Very useful. I do see a few slips and busted knuckles with that removal tool before you get the hang of it. Very cool though

Definitely a thumbs up!!! Thanks for the tip!👍👍👍

This kit is definitely a time and energy saver for sure, not having to break, clean and re-seat a tire is time consuming. I'm actually shocked you didn't clean the surfaces before sending the new stem in, that's the only thing I would have done differently, and absolutely would suggest anyone does before pushing the new stem in. There is always dirt and grime sitting there, there's no point in taking a chance with slow leaks being you just replaced the thing.
