This video is still just as relevant and incredibly useful in 2023 ! Just finished replacing the alternator on my '05 Elantra, though it was much more of a pain because of the age of the car and the fact that I had to use a third of a WD-40 can to get everything loosened up. Thanks a lot guys !

For clarification, the bottom bracket is an open "C". No need to remove long mounting bolt. Just loosen it, and alt will swing out. Just did my alternator and it took me a few extra minutes to figure it out. Great video though! Thanks!!!

As others have said, great video. Replaced the alternator in my 99 elantra with no problems. It was a little too tight on the path up, so I went down and squeaked it by the oil filter. So much of auto repair is having the confidence to order the part and try it! Thank you!

My friends were trying to replace an alternator in a 2005 Elantra. I watched as they fought trying to get the old one out. I came inside, googled this video and went back and walked them thru an easy exchange. Too funny. (They did not think to remove radiator fan) Great video.

A couple other tips: I pulled the coolant overflow top off and rotated the adjacent hose clamp to the 9 o'clock position. That gives you more room to get the belt back on.

Changed my 2005 Hyundai elantra GT alternator on (05 - 01 - 2015). Great video, thanks for sharing and putting in time to create these. This video enabled me the confidence to learn, purchase and do the job myself. Biggest issues was taking the bolt out from the lower part of the alternator. Had to wiggle the alernator around, back and forth; to loosen the bolt to pull. Looking forward to putting In small jobs on my ride. Thanks again!

This is my second time using this extremely helpful video for an alternator swap and I thank you so much for taking the time to break this replacement job down. I have a question about the alternator belt: does it just go on the two pulleys, the alternator and the crank, or does it also go on a third pulley (maybe that one is the AC or water pump?) thank you again for this life saving video. I would not be able to get to work and get paid without it.

So I followed everystep of the way and the first time I did this it was squeaking and I thought the bet was to tight (which it was) so I loosened it now the battery light is on and my steering wheel is hard to turn. Could this be a result of the belt?! That’s the only problem i have right now also will a loose belt cause the steering wheel problem I’m mentioning because I didn’t have this problem before.

My alternator seems to be doing fine but I noticed all electronics are firing way too much. The amount of power coming through is too high. I took a voltmeter to my battery at standstill and confirmed it was being charged to an unsafe level. I ordered a new voltage regulator. I can see the part on the side of the alternator from when you removed it. Do you think this is an easy swapping of the regulator inside the case if I follow the steps here?

Dustin Lewis I did it, detaching is easy, REMOVING is difficult, you MAY have to Jack the car up an remove the front passenger side wheel to loosen the bottom bolt, but the alternator bracket and oil filter are in the way of removing it from the top or bottem, I had to wrestle it out and the new one back in, other than that, it's pretty simple. done on an 08 sedan btw
