Hey bro, what's the torque spec for that bolt on the bottom side of the alternator?
@NielVTEC2 күн бұрын
There isn't much information on them. But just tight enough that the alternator won't move, but not too tight where the bolt would snap on you
@hmsailor6133 Жыл бұрын
Good video man. How did you remove the bracket in front of the 14mm bolt?
@Thurston-q6q9 ай бұрын
I broke the bolt on mine. A 10 minute job turned into a nightmare. They put low grade bolts in here so be careful and if you get it out without breaking it replace it with Grade 10 bolt for the next guy. The alternator is lile 250 bucks near me so I had to drill and tap mine which was a complete pain in the ass.
@NielVTEC9 ай бұрын
Yeah, same thing happened to me, definitely a big flaw on these cars!
@Max.527 Жыл бұрын
How tight should the belt be? The new alternator I put in is screeching so loud. Charges battery but it's very annoying.
@NielVTEC Жыл бұрын
It probably means that the belt will need to be replaced!
@Max.527 Жыл бұрын
@@NielVTEC ok thanks!
@jonathanmacdonald9276 Жыл бұрын
No. Belt is screeching because you have to tension the belt correctly. Screeching means it’s to loose. My 2009 yaris sedan did that a few years ago. I loosened the 2 bolts on the alternator and used a pry bar and pulled the alternator more forward a bit. Solved the problem.
@derek5395 Жыл бұрын
A squealing belt is either cracked and worn or too loose. If your alternator is older it could also be the alternator itself.
@jimeerey Жыл бұрын
2:20 something to note when removing this connector. My 08 is a squeeze release. The video shows the dude easily removing it. What I did was I left it connected and when I was able to remove the alternator. The connector was very easy to remove. I fought it for so long and almost broke it. Don’t do what I did unless absolutely sure.

So I replaced it and the engine is shaking/vibrating pretty decently a little bit when idling. Is the the computer learning it or whatever ?
@NielVTEC4 ай бұрын
If it's still doing it for a couple of days, the bolts aren't probably tighten enough!
@mistera1668 күн бұрын
No. Check videos in YT on how to reset idle in Toyota cars. It takes about 10 minutes. It is necessary every time you disconnect the battery and reconnect it.
@CouchMan88 Жыл бұрын
Car runs bad after restart because the throttle body is dirty. ECU will compensate to make it run correctly but if you clean the throttle body and possibly the MAF sensor it should idle pretty good right after reconnecting the battery. I did the same job and had the same problem but cleaning the throttle body fixed it. Before it had a slight vibration under load with the A/C or a lot of electrical components turned on.

@NielVTEC6 ай бұрын
You just got to put it sideways first, then put it at the correct position once inside. If that doesn't work, make sure you have the good part first!

I think the yaris was running on 500 RPM and dying for a few times not because of the new alternator. Today I've disconnected the battery to clean the connection points and my yaris had exactly the same symptoms as your but then went fine.
@NielVTEC Жыл бұрын
Yeah no, I just had to run it a couple of times and the car stopped dying!

It happens because the computer resets the throttle body plate position once the battery is disconnected, when driven for a while the computer adjusts the position again. Or clean the throttle body plate :)

How do you clean the wires

I would use a specific spray cleaner for wires if it's really bad, then I would just use a brush!

Belt needs to be pulled further up ( towards you if your in front of the car) mine is pulled closer like way further up, that belt is too loose. Has way to much slack, needs to be tighter. You did a good job tho that was the only thing you messed up on. Also, stay oem, Toyota makes amazing cars, and the Yaris is from Japan they’re even better made in Japan compared to Hondas and Toyotas that are made in Mexico, USA, and Canada. Japanese know what they’re doing. When my oem alternator went out a few years ago on my 09 Yaris ( same as yours and also grey) I went to the dealer and spent $280 for a NM new manufactured oem denso alternator. Denso and aisin make amazing parts and are Toyotas lead suppliers. If I got 13 years out of a oem alternator made in Japan might as well spend a little more money and go oem again.
@jonathanmacdonald9276 Жыл бұрын
I had a Bosch alternator in before I put the oem one in and the Bosch lasted 2 weeks. Battery light kept flickering. Since I put the denso from Japan In, no problems 2-3 years now trouble free. Make sure to keep that throttle body clean every 10k miles give it a wipe down, keep battery terminals clean too and keep a strong battery in that car AGM batteries are best and maintenance free and last longest. Strong battery works well with an alternator weak battery makes alternator work harder. Also if you replace the spark plugs go to autozone they sell denso TT iridium plugs $40 for 4 plugs. Best plugs out there
@jonathanmacdonald9276 Жыл бұрын
Also change that oil every 3k miles or every 6 months whatever comes first I use Castrol 5w-30 synthetic blend oil from autozone amazing oil with a good API rating. These engines are one of Toyotas best engines ever made. Since you drive same car as me I wanna see you get a ton of life out of it bro. If you ever need assistance or have questions on anything let me know I’ve done tons of maintenance to my car I wanna get 5 more years out of this thing so hmu on these comments.
