Have you ever had to fix your slide seals yourself or needed to pay a shop?
@Deborah-lm8wd2 жыл бұрын
I paid a shop for the first time. Now it's been about four years and they are melting again, so I guess it's time to do it myself!

Yes it is a bummer that these do not last very long. You can do this.

I priced thru an Rv Mobile Repair service in Texas, replacing seal on one slide at approx $300 with 1 hrs labor. I sincerely believe, that if I could do it myself, I could do all 3 slides for that much. According to KZbin it's not that hard. Two people are better than one. Make sure you tackle the project on a cool day as melted rubber, on a hot day, makes a mess .

Thanks for this video! My wife and I purchased a used class c with slideouts and, of course, received very minimal instructions on care and maintenace from the dealership where we purchased it. This is our first rv with slides. for two years now we have been merrily sliding them in and out until I noticed that they were making more noise and were not moving as smoothly than I remember in the past.

I'm going up today I have no one else and I have a new hip bad knees and another bad hip but I have no choice. I've gotta see where my back end of my long slideouts leaking in from. Winters coming in on me quickly all I have is that white flex seal tape I hope I can do my best with what I got

You didn’t do the flashing (rubber laying below & on top of slide out)?

What caulk do you use on the rubber seal?

Thanks for the video. What about the wiper seal? Should those be replaced too? Is there a video on how to do those as well?
@RVKevin2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim, I suppose you could also replace the wiper seal. My seal is still in good shape. I may have to replace it next year. If the rubber feels soft and not cracked, you should be good for another season. make sure to check it each season.

How much did the seal material cost? Thanks. I had mine replaced under warranty when it was like new. It started binding up really bad, the replaced it, stop binding but then wouldn’t flip out when opened. Now the new one has a big kink in it, and now will probably need to be replaced again. I bought a new camper to cut down on problems but that is a joke. These things are slapped together and are just not built to give trouble free relaxation, lol. UGH!

That was a while ago so I do not recall the costs. You are correct. Craftsmanship really needs to be improved .

My seals/wipers are the double “C” Chanel and the shops want close to 5K to replace. Do you think replacing it with the 2” swiper will work, the kind you staple/tape on and caulk? They made a DIY job into a pricey shop fix…
@RVKevin2 жыл бұрын
Your not kidding, the shops charge allot, it is a solution to the problem however. On this Video my Wipers are the staple and caulk type. this was really simple once I had a look at the process. I am not sure of the 2" would be the right size as i don't know your setup. I suspect you already know but, generally speaking these fixes do not have to be perfect, they just need to be mechanically good. The factory installs never seem to be dead on and often they last many many years. I would say, measure twice and even go ask a second shop, tell them you want to do it your self and ask if they have any advice. You might be surprised. Hope this helps.

I had the same thing happen to me. It was a mess. Do you know the size screw is used to anker the D seal? The guy that did mine replaced it with to little of a screw and it came away from the wall. Thanks
@RVKevin10 ай бұрын
I would say to remove a screw to use as a sample, a grab a little bigger size. This should be good.

You said a mouthful about smoke alarms. They ALWAYS go off in the middle of the night! And while we're on the subject, I'd like to know who the genius was that said, "Hey, let's make this thing chirp at a frequency that is extremely reflective so you spend 8 hours searching your entire home to find out which one is bad and better yet, let's set up a very long time delay so you have to stand at each one of them for, I don't know, how about 10 minutes waiting for it to chirp!." His co-worker says, "But Wilbur, why not just have the sound be continuous so it's easy to find?" He replies, "Well, we could, that would make sense, but we're engineers so we never do what makes sense. Make it chirp and then delay for 10 minutes."

The sad part of this is he’s fixing this because he has some camping coming up. Water running in your camper doesn’t care when your going camping.
