ive been a auto mechanic over 26 years and never taking apart a rear end. this video helped a lot. back in the day I had to go to a book and get frustrated when I couldn't find what I needed to help finish the job. thank you KZbin and folks who leave videos to help a fellow Mechanic

I know what you mean man. Rear ends don't go out much because all I have done is pop the diff cover(customer) and replace pads and shoes but my rear end went out recently because I neglected changing the gear oil. Only if I would have changed it in April along with my oil change I might have saved it. It had sludge in it and had no gear oil smell. Changing the gear oil didn`t make the noises go away plus the pinion and axle seals were leaking. Changing the rear end with a used one will be less costly than popping the diff cover and changing gears, bearings and seals.

Out of all the videos I've watched yours the best but you have left me no better than any of the others my only question that non of these videos have answered is about "how much ware can be exceptible on the spindle axle where it rides the rear axle bearing ?! Not a single video addressed this issue non and its my only question of course !

If one side of axle was broken off from hub should the other side of truck be replaced or not needed? I lost control of my truck today on a wet road and tapped the curb causing the axle to snap right behind the rim

Great video. I like watching professionals work. That is a lot of corrosion on that truck. I guess that is the nature of living in an area where they salt the roads.

ATTENTION: The torque spec is 30 ft/lbs for the rear differential cover bolts NOT 15 as stated in the video. I double checked to verify and in another A1 auto video they state it as the correct 30 ft/lbs. Just FYI, other than that this is a fantastic video!!! Thank you for all of the info A1, you guys are the best!!!

Hey guys. Great video, very informative on the details of the repair. Was the customer concern a grinding noise during turns or something similar? My Tahoe has a grinding noise from the drivers side rear wheel when I turn and I was assuming that it was a bent c-clip in the rear axle. I'd love to know what you guys think it is. Thanks!

I have a good ideal now what’s happened to my new rear axle on my Chevy equinox that a national chain repair shop did 8 months ago yet I kept hearing a clinging sound and it’s the cap that between rear axle and differential and now my axle is not flush to differential and is hanging out about 3 inches... so it seems the C-clip was not set properly to lock my axle in place...would you not agree? ( Bc I noticed you mentioned in the video as you re-installed axle that to push it all the way back in then replace c clip then pull it back out to set and lock into place )Or would you think there is an issue with the after market axle, and do you have 2005 Chevrolet Equinox Awd right rear passenger side axle ? I garaged my suv 3 months ago...I need it back up and will fix myself if I have too! Btw..great video and I always figure out and troubleshoot with your videos and big help to know I can call or go online to order replacement parts! Thanks for always being there for customers 😍
