thank you Binh for putting out these videos! As a 21 year old with an 05 IS and lots of ambitions for the car but not a lot of money to expend at once, you make planning and budgeting for the next part easier. You have my gratitude from Cali🤙🤙 Keep up the good work!

Hi it’s only a set of ball joints for each side? One on each side?

Yes one on each side. Check you too A arms too for any play or looseness.

A good reminder to stop procrastinating on this! What are you thoughts on the lower control arms? I replaced these on my old Gita (sportcross) but haven’t yet on my 02 sedan which is in much better shape and has been babied and garaged most of its life but does have 150,000 miles on it.
@TunerwithKids2 жыл бұрын
Unless the bushings are shot, I’d leave them.
@paul--b2 жыл бұрын
Bushings were shot, so did them along with the balljoints and front shocks which I had never done before. Appreciate the vid, was very handy, still this work and front discs and pads and an oil change still took me 18 hours over 2 days (with very few breaks) 😅 Rear shocks had already been done. Car drives like new now, cheers!

Great, in-depth video- I made sure to subscribe. Just curious, would you recommend getting an alignment after doing something like this? Thanks
@TunerwithKids2 жыл бұрын
Yea, alignment is always recommended after suspension work. For me, I have so much other suspension to update, I’m holding off til I’m done. With OEM to OEM replacement, it shouldn’t be out of whack much. If you did aftermarket, definitely have alignment redone.
@JoyLong2 жыл бұрын
Always, you work on any suspension job, get an alignment

Great video! I need to change the lower control arms on my 02. What brand do you recommend?

Probably OEM. Not up to date on aftermarket stuff. Drift people usually do FIGS Engineering

Hi Binh, sweet channel. So I have an ‘04 IS manual trans :)None of the suspension parts have been touched at all, car still drives very smooth. Car has 169k miles. My question is if I replace lower ball joints, do you also rec changing the stabilizer bar link as well? Just don’t know if I should have a professional shop change all suspension parts. Thanks.
@TunerwithKids Жыл бұрын
Ball joints should be done as a preventative due to documented failures all over the place. The sway bar end links should only be done if they are damaged or broken, not critical to safety. Other than ball joints, inspect upper A a joints and replace the rotting caster arms with new Superpro #2 bushings, common item.
@remogaggi82 Жыл бұрын
@@TunerwithKids thanks for the quick reply. I’m looking in google now, you are saying the upper control arm bushings correct? Last question. I was installing gas struts in my trunk as the torsion bar setup broke. Accidentally drilled through my rear passenger seatbelt. I bought a replacement, but do you know what section of FSM covers seatbelt install. I can’t for the life of me find it. Cheers dude, wish I could buy you a beer.
@TunerwithKids Жыл бұрын
The ball joint for upper A arm also wears but won’t pop out like the lower. No idea for seat belts in FSM.

my car is at 345,000kms, i dont know when/ if the lower ball joints were ever replaced. my steering has a tiny bit of slop and makes a bit of noise. its also stiffer than i feel it should be. the problem is, i have checked the front lower ball joints and all the suspension bushings multiple times over the years and have not found anything wrong. should i just replace the ball joints anyway? is it possible they are bad and i am not able to make them move/ clunk with leverage for some reason, which is why i have not replaced them yet. i keep thinking i will be able to lever at them and prove they are worn/ loose thus justifying replacing them. but i am not good at replacing things that arent broken yet. maybe i should just replace them anyway.
@TunerwithKids Жыл бұрын
When in doubt replace. Don’t become a victim.

How often should ball joints be changed?
@TunerwithKids2 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend 150k miles or 15 years. Probably more often if slammed or bad roads. Keep eye on them and inspect often when miles get up there.

I have MevoTech, nice. Also How do the megan coilovers feel? Are they comfortable? Or is it too soft? Too hard? Please let me know, because I am in the market for a set of coilovers.
@TunerwithKids2 жыл бұрын
The Megan’s are good. I have really touched them or made any dampening adjustments. Only thing I’ve done is adjust them upwards to raise ride height. Only complaint that is perch threads are fine so it takes forever to raise and lower (same for almost all coil brands.) only coils I’ve ever used that had good tall threads for fast adjustments is Ground Control (back in the late 1990s)
