Thanks! I hate the way they try to make things un-fixable. You saved the day!

For those who can’t unscrew it. Welch Allyn did add a little glue. Vice Grips over a rag (to avoid scratching the finish) did the trick for me, it’s still reverse threaded. After that the process matches the video.

I actually put ours in the freezer for a couple of hours. That worked for me; easily unscrewed after that. The freeze must have changed the chemical make up of the glue. Who knew!? Now to find a battery. . .

Thank you for this. In the UK these "batteries" are £190 (about 225 dollars) right now. Welch Allyn will not sell just the internal battery and claim it cant be changed. I've been wrestling with it but didn't realise it had a reverse thread! Very many thanks for your time making this video.

Thanks ! Our VFD is on a very small budget and I was stumped trying to get to this battery. Do you think the reverse treads on the end cap was intentional? Great Work on helping us fix things instead of replacing them

Hi, Max! I did something wrong today and my chip smoked. I must have made a short circuit. Please post a photo of the microcircuit that is inside the pen. Thank you!

Thank you for your most helpful tutorial Max. I don't have the original charger. Any suggestion on charging the battery after I remove it. I have many 110v to low dc volt wall chargers, and an 18650 charger. Battery is strong now but eventually need to be charged. Thanks again coupled with all the best to you and family from New Rochelle N.Y.

Hi Max I can't unscrew the ring. Did Welch Allyn glue it?

Great! I was looking for a handle that takes standard Lithium cylindrical cell e.g. 18650, 20700, 21700 etc Heads with standard LEDs with high CRI that one could get from CREE or electronic component supplier would be nice too.

Thanks for a very useful video. Left hand thread. That's downright gouging your customers. Bad form, Welch Allyn! Don't you charge enough for your crappy optics and batteries???!!!

My current power handle will not unscrew from the bottom in reverse thread direction. I wonder if WA started gluing that bottom onto the thread. Anyone else seeing this? Thinking of seeing if a heat gun used carefully can loosen things up.

Hi, Max, while attempting to change out my battery the electronics kind of fell out, I was curious if you had a diagram showing how to reassemble the handle?

can you use a generic 18650 3.7V li-ion battery? thanks
@ospatch3 жыл бұрын
The 18650 is undersized (measuring 65mm tall and 18mm diameter). The original Welch Allyn battery is 70mm tall and 20mm in diameter. That said, the 20700 appears to be the correct size and voltage, but I see almost no price difference between it and a replacement UR-611 battery.
