so if you pause when working out on the precor and the display turns off immediately it's the battery not saving your data? and it's probably this big 12v battery? is the location the same in most the precor? thx

Yes that would be your battery is dead and needs replaced. Yes the battery should be in the same spot as yours or if older model it will be in the back compartment.

Would a low battery cause the ramp to not go up or down?

Yes absolutely, that is the first place I would look and replace the battery. The elliptical will still run without the battery, but it won't have enough power to operate the incline

Depending on how much you use it? The battery is a rechargeable battery and the more you use it the more it stays recharged. So with daily use probably 3-4 years
