Clear description. Excellent ! Note: Big hands like mine found it necessary to remove the two left bolts holding the washer reservoir while keeping the single right side bolt loose. There was no filter in mine at all. You may have to take a knife and cut out notches at the bottom of the filter element that in my case were blocking the tab holes for the plastic screen covering the filter element. All good after that. Those four screws holding the cover panel - 3 out of 4 were brittle , broken and / or stripped. Easy enough to replace if the parts store has them. This vid presentration gave me the info necessary to do this operation. Recommended with my thanks to ' Filterheads ' !

If you don't have a socket wrench with a swivel head, turn the wipers on until they put up, then turn off the key. You'll be able to get a straight socket wrench to that third reservoir bolt.

2001 2002 models might not have a cabin air filter slot. Mine does not have one. I have to custom make an air filter to fit since it is not the same size as the one that some PT cruisers come with.

That is correct, Cabin Air Filters were not standard in most vehicles manufactured during that period.

I just did the wife`s 2004 base model and I guess I was lucky, in her model cruiser the filter housing was there but chrysler never put a filter in it. Like was mentioned in this video, he says to remove the old filter if you find one, I found none. The filter I bought went right in the housing and fit like a glove. These filters are not just to protect the blower motors, they filter all the air that the cabin gets and that the occupants breathe, a good thing to have in place.

i think it isnt recommended for manufacturer to put one because once the filter clog up it is more pollute than no filter at all i rather not put filter it can also clog cold air from ac i removed mine after i install it for a month

As with any filter on a vehicle it requires periodic servicing. The advantages of a cabin air filter absolutely outweigh the disadvantages. The manufacturer leaves them out as a cost savings measure.

customprc yes it does require frequent replacement but if ur a busy person replacement frequent is not convenient maybe for first few months but after awhile u get tired and i put one before it really does pollute the air inside than not to put one at all idk maybe just me.

So . . . with this reasoning you think it's better not to use a filter that filters out stuff that would get sucked into your automobile cabin. I guess I'll go remove my water filters and just drink that stuff down. Heck, the money I can save on activated charcoal carbon filters if I just breath in the Naphthalene and Toluene and Fiberglass particles and let my lungs do the work.

I have a 2005 Cruiser and I just installed the cabin filter using this video. The car had the housing, but no filter; now it does. There was one difference. In my car, the passenger side cowling was over the drivers side cowling, not under.

According to some of the forums I've read about this, only the export models had them installed, but the domestic market ones didn't. As far as having the housing or not, all of what I've read said that it supposedly has it. Some that don't have it have the hardware kit available on the internet in case you want to install it yourself, but I don't know how much that would be. I'm going to investigate this on my neighbor's 2003 Touring model and report back.

I just pulled the cowling off my 2001 PT Cruiser and checked the fresh air inlet behind the Window Washer Bottle and NO Plastic Filter Housing and NO CABIN FILTER EXISTS IN MY 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. Just a big rectangular hole for fresh air to come through. Just wanted to share that with everyone to save them some work. Yes, i purchased this one Brand New in December of 2000. It's a Limited Edition built in Mexico. Hope this helps!!!!

+optionstraderman I believe the optional filter housing can be purchased from a chrysler dealer`s parts dept.and easily put in place. At least that is what the instructions that came with my filter stated.

Just a heads up, not all PT Cruisers came with the cabin air filter option. So if your's looks different from this video then you do not have the cabin air filter option.

Nope, Believe it or not, some PT cruisers do not have a slot for a cabin air filter. My 2002 base model has no slot to hold an air filter. If I want one, I'll have to make one myself.

Check your car before purchasing a filter. Not all PT Cruiser's came with the cabin air filter option.

@@filterheads I have a 2009 that was bought with 12 to15 thousand on it in 2011. I tore into it & no filter. Looks as though there was never one in it. It looks like one would probably fit but. Idk. The cabin filter in PT Cruisers is a dealer installed option and the filter housing is required to add the cabin filter to the vehicle. A Chrysler dealer should be able to install a housing into your PT Cruiser.

It is still good to change out your cabin air filter because mice can make nests on the filter and it can become filled with debris over time. If you rarely use the filter then you will just have to change it less often.

It could be the result of a bad seal where the housing attaches to the vehicle. It may also be the result of a clogged drain. We suggest that you take your car to a dealer and have them check it out.
