Yea, thank you. I was confused about the arrows. Your video helped me very much. I appreciate your help.

Good accurate video and you're right, a lot of folks are easily confused. However, there is one situation that you didn't cover... What if the filter brand you bought just had an arrow and it doesn't say "air flow" or "up" next to the arrow? Wix and NAPA filters are an example. The default with an air filter is that arrows on the edge of the filter point in the direction of air flow. So the only time an arrow on a horizontally mounted air filter points up is when it says up next to the arrow. I've confirmed this with an email from WIX. All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter will have downward air flow. If they had upward air flow then dirt and debris would be trapped inside the blower instead of collecting on top of the old filter. By the way, the STP brand does not have the words "up" or "air flow" next to the arrow, but when you point the arrow down the words will be upside down.

Good catch! The correct text orientation should be the catch all. Do the arrows on the filters WITHOUT the word "airflow" all point up ⬆️?
@njsongwriter3 жыл бұрын
@@eschrader No. The only time they should point up is if it says "UP" next to the arrow. And as I said the STP filters will have the print upside down when you point the arrow down.

@@njsongwriter I was thinking the edges tip of the paper filter needs to be at the top of the filter so the airflow pulls it down by suction to seal rather than the air forcing it to fold to the side allow air to bypass. That might also be another way to tell if that's what all the engineers design to.

@@eschrader I think gravity is enough to keep it down. Actually there are two prongs on the back of the plastic cover that are designed to hold the air filter element up.

To add to the confusion, the Denso-branded filter, which is OE for Toyota, has the airflow arrow oriented so when you install it correctly pointing down, all the other lettering is upside down.

Thanks! Piece of cake!!

6 month update- hepa filter seems to have reduced the air output but it's kinda nice unless you run full blast a lot. Will probably be harder on the fan motor over time.

The cabin air filter says down but the aftermarket air cabin filter is pointing up what should I do? Should I point the air filter down ?
@eschrader2 жыл бұрын
That's what this video is about. Minute 2 talks about it. What aftermarket filter do you have and what words are around the arrow, such as up, down, airflow? Otherwise I would point the arrow down with your filter since it's probably indicating airflow direction.

@@eschrader my aftermarket STP has the arrow pointing up and says airflow but my Honda cabin has the arrow pointing down. So do I match the arrows? Even if my STP filter would be upside down ?

What will happen if the air flow arrow is flipped? Like i put it wrong it should be down but i put it up .

According to Google "If you install your filter in the wrong direction, air will have a hard time flowing through the filter's material and your air handler will have to work overtime to make up for the loss of airflow. This is not only a waste of energy, but it can also possibly damage your air conditioner or heating system"

Way too long to change that filter
