How difficult is it to replace the housing? Can you just cut new housing pieces to the same length as the old ones and put them on?

Yes, as simple as that. New housing will make a big difference if your shifting was sticky. Cutting housing can be tricky though and should be done with a housing cutter otherwise it might pinch the housing and fray the wired frame.

@@Migsfigs a heavy duty one. And for best results, fish some old cable down the new housing which will minimize pinching when you cut it. (The issue is that the housing has a wire mesh ring between the inner plastic tube and the black outer coating. A basic wire cutter will have a more difficult time getting cleanly all the way through that mesh.)

Hi, what if I have EF-50 and the least tense gear is the highest one in the changing part, is it ok?

Theoretically, changing the cable should be very similar. Just shift the shifter to the gear that would put no tension on the cable.
