Silly question, but what about using a hair dryer instead of a heat gun? Have you ever tried this?

Great results Tom! I'm ashamed to say that I've never thought of using a heating gun for removal before. Smart video topic.

MidwestManMountain Home & Garden DIY Thanks Kristopher. the heat gun really is the difference maker in this project. Caulk comes out so easily once it becomes pliable from the heat

Yep. The spoon works great when you don't want to use you finger and don't have a specialty caulk tool.

I’m so glad to find your video! You’ve always paid for a handyman to come in and caulk. And then comes the pandemic! We are two seniors who really don’t want people in our house. After over a year of cOVID-19, we really don’t want people coming in our house. And Cochran definitely needs changing. Love your tips. I wonder if you have another one for around the sink, which doesn’t have straight edges

A tip I have gotten from a professional buddy is after you lay a bead, spray the whole thing lightly with glass cleaner. This makes the caulk not stick to anywhere but in the place you want it. It also cleans up easily.

I've watched plumbers and contractors lay down a bead of caulk, lick their finger, and smooth it out beautifully. I try to lay a bead and it looks horrible--uneven, too spread out. I'm sure for someone who does this daily, honing the tapeless skill is a valuable time and resource saver, but for someone who only has to do this a handful of times every few years, your tip will help tremendously.

hehe he said caulk. Great video, would have been nice to zoom out a bit to see the whole work area, maybe that's just me being a libra. If you can put it in with the tip of the caulking gun, why would you need to push it in instead of just leaving that nice bead you pulled in the first place? Does the caulking need to be pushed in always?
@HomeCraftChronicles
@HomeCraftChronicles 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. In a small space like that, I can only go back so far, but I understand what you mean. You aren't really pushing the caulk with the tool as much as you are just smoothing it out to get a finished look.

So you really can't use tape around a basin, so would you just lightly sponge it or something?
@HomeCraftChronicles
@HomeCraftChronicles 7 жыл бұрын
Xenith Orb I have used tape around a basin. It can be a bit tedious to apply, but can be done. You can sponge tool latex caulk, but not really with silicone. Silicone is not soluble, which makes it great for bathrooms. Try a really soapy finger to work the caulk.

Good tips as usual. Also per usual, you need better production values; the video was a bit dark.

Thanks. Unfortunately, the way that bathroom is laid out, that was the best I could do with the lighting. I had three lights set up in there, but it still turned out a little darker than I would have liked.

I feel like there was so little info on how to remove the caulk. Would've loved to have seen more footage of the removal, seen the other tools used, and an explanation on how to use them.

BBBBBrittany Sorry that you feel a bit short changed. It's a delicate balance trying to give complete information without having an epic length video. I'll try to have a more detailed video on HCC in the near future.

I want to support HGMM, because I love WWMM, but the production values need to improve. Often the lighting is terrible, which can sometimes be forgiven, but poor audio is inexcusable. Lighting isn't particularly expensive, and nor is a better audio source.
