Just did this on my lunch break at work. Copy of sapphire my dad got me as a birthday gift before he passed. So I was really nervous to mess it up and I guess I prepared well enough. I’ve never soldered anything before and I did it in like five minutes. Game works perfectly now. Thanks for the help !

Would you recommend using soldering paste as well as the wick in order to help remove the old solder? I’m sorry if I didn’t word this correctly. I’m not exactly new to things like this. I know it might not take much experience but, yeah 😅 again sorry if I worded it incorrectly 🤣🤣 also going to attempt to replace my Pokemon Crystal and emerald batteries. Thanks so much for posting this! I needed this video 🙌🏼🙌🏼

The pins that the battery solders to on the board might have gone bad or corroded on your cartridge.
@chrismoore-harris9012 Жыл бұрын
@@plasmazmb1146 dose that mean it’s pretty much a no go? Or can you clean them up?
@AlexsaurusRex4 ай бұрын
@@chrismoore-harris9012I definitely don't know what I'm talking about, but if it's rust, you might be able to get rid of it with vinegar. Do your research on whether the pins are rusted first and then figure which vinegar is best to use and how to do it and for how long. I hope you're able to save your cartridge.

Have I understood correctly? If I start a new save file WHILE the battery is dry, the time freezes right at the start. If I then, let's say in a year, replace the battery. Then the time starts moving right after, as the clock froze at zero.
@joervintagepokemon6976 Жыл бұрын
I believe you have that correct. This is why it is best to replace the battery THEN start a new game.

Yes, as long as it's electrically conductive, which most types of solders are.

what does "game restart" mean? deleting the save and creating a new one?
@km924105 ай бұрын
I’m not sure when I say that but some battery company’s that make these make it where the positive sides go up, I bought some of those and replaced my gold save with it and it wouldn’t work any other way than the positive side and many other people have done this too, I think it’s just the way the flaps are positioned

Do you know what would happen if I save my game data as a save state before the battery dies, and then reload that state after swapping the battery? With my gen 1 cartridges I created save states using an analogue pocket before swapping the batteries, then by reloading the states it put my save files back on the cartridges. Would this method work on gen 3 to keep all the time based events working?
@joervintagepokemon697610 ай бұрын
I have no idea but that’s a good question!
@Jppen10 ай бұрын
@@joervintagepokemon6976 It seems that using save states on cartridges with a real time clock desyncs it. I actually haven't tried gens 2 or 3 yet on the analogue pocket, but from what I read there are ways to reset the clock in your cartridge after swapping batteries. You can do this in gen 3 with tools called rtcread-ds or PkHeX and a GBA or DS flash cart.

This helped a lot but I have a question, when I did mine it didn’t seem to work and I used a new battery, when I pulled it out again and tested the battery it only had 0.2, did I mess up some how or is it a crappy battery? Any info would be awesome!! Thank you

If the battery did not measure the appropriate voltage then it’s most likely a bad battery.

You can practice on less expensive games such as any gameboy game or you can use a repair service supplied by a local game store. Some repair services let you send to them by mail and they send your game back with a new battery.

If your game doesn't save, it's either NOT authentic, or broken. Ruby , Sapphire and Emerald use FRAM, which doesn't need power to save data for years.

Hello, I am interested in replacing the battery in my Pokemon Emerald cartridge, but I do not have experience with soldering irons and am not very comfortable taking apart the cartridge myself. Is my only option to do this alone, or is there a way to pay someone else to do this? (Without knowing any specialized hobbyists beforehand.)
