Outstanding video. Very thorough nice camera angles and great descriptions. This really makes changing the CV Joint seem sensible and straight forward...until I try to do it tomorrow and end up spending stupid amounts of time on really stupid road blocks during the installation. Thank you for this video and great job.

He makes it look easy to reinstall the strut end. I had a helluva time getting it in. Of course knuckle screw .just be removed (mine seized) and upon reinsertion you must align stop tab in knuckle opening. It also can help to use a pipe/pry bar above control arm and below frame rail (push down or even sit on it--if on jack stands!) and apply a small amount of anti seize to help strut slip in. Once you get it in be sure to put in bolt so that tab stop comes to rest atop of it because this determines the proper strut insertion depth. Also, while in the vicinity change out the stabilizer bar link as they are cheap.

Excellent as usual, best videos. My problem was getting the strut out of the steering knuckle. I had to use a small jack between the base of the spring and still had to pry with a screwdriver to move it over and out of the steering knuckle hole. What a bear, there is no play whatever in the vertical direction, the control arm is bottomed out, the bushings were pushing against me, etc. It might have been worth it to pop out the ball joint first so there is some room to move.

I just had both drive axles replaced by a shop that has a good reputation but on acceleration there is a little vibration/shutter for just a few moments until it gets to speed. For some reason their mechanic says he can't feel it. I don't know if I'm getting the run around or not. What could cause that? It's my wife's car and she noticed it first and I thought she might be imagining something but I have to agree with her as I don't remember that from earlier times I drove it before the work.

hey i had same problem on 2005 taurus, the trick they dont mention in video is to jack up car and use jacks to hold it up and then put jack under subframe on side of car u working on and loosen the 2 subframe bolts on that side and then lower the subframe a few inches on that side to u have clearence to pull out strut easy. Then reinstall and left subframe back up tighten bolts and do the other side same way. saves lot of work and time.

How would you know when your CV Axle is bad.
@DietrichKaiserfs11 жыл бұрын
So my friend and I did this last night without any major problems. I now feel at higher speeds a wobble in the gas pedal and the steering wheel. Nothing to grand but it's there. Is it alignment perhaps? Also I'm hearing a metal screeching sound. My friend said it's rust on the new rotors(did brakes a week ago) as once I recognized the CV joint going the car sat about a week in the rain... Is that normal?
@technomage67366 жыл бұрын
Dietrich Kaiser Wheel bearings perhaps? I suspect wheel bearings going bad and creating heat and wear on my CV joint. Bearings were bad, also had the CV axle go bad as well as a rotor on the same tire, so I'm thinking the bad bearings caused the other 2 to go out.
