Great to hear :) You can definitely upgrade them to a SSD. It will definitely increase your computer's performance but if the computers are old, it may not increase it as much as it would in a newer computer.

Doublecheck your manual but yes, I do think any 2.5 inch SATA drive will work in your Inspiron :)

I have an Inspiron 17 5000 (Reg Model P26E). Couldn't find a video. It boots very slow and I was told to replace the hard drive. A couple questions. Would the disassembly to remove/replace the hard drive be essentially the same as in the video? What type of hard drive fits? Would I get the operating system to reinstall off the current hard drive or does it make more sense to download from Microsoft? Is it worth upgrading the RAM while it's disassembled? Also, the keyboard is getting wonky - need to press some keys HARD to get them to register. Do they make a replacement keyboard?

Yes, its definately worth it to upgrade RAM while your in there. RAM is a large part of the speed factor, and is a relitavely cheap upgrade. Yes, the disassembly would be basically the same :) Most likely, you would need a 2.5 inch HDD with a SATA connection. You can always check out websites like crucial.com. They can scan your computer and tell you what kind of components you need :)

Are the lights the only signs of life when you turn it on? No motherboard or hard drive sounds? No fan noise? Nothing on the screen? Also, did anything happen before this issue appeared? Liquid spill, overheating, Windows update, etc?

If the diagnostic is showing that the HDD is not installed, it could be loose or bad. I would first try 'reseating' the Hard Drive. That is where you unplug it and then plug it back in, making sure its properly plugged in and secure. Try the scan again. If it still says that its not installed, then its most likely bad and needs to be replaced. You would also then need to install an operating system onto the new one as shown here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/i33Ve4mhaa99aJI

Thanks for the compliments :) Yes, most computers should easily take 8GB RAM. You can double check what your computers max RAM ability is on its manufacturer website or by visiting sites like crucial.com. They can scan the computer and tell you / suggest overpriced upgrade options lol. Upgrading from 500GB HDD to a 1TB HDD will help if your running out of room. Most normal users wont be running out of room at 500GB. If its not space your going for, and you want to improve performance / speed, then switch to a Solid State Drive instead of a Hard Drive. They are faster and break less often :)

If that is what your computer takes then yes, you can get a new HDD and 2 RAM sticks. You can look at your RAM sticks to see what kind of RAM to buy or you can use sites like crucial.com to scan your computer and tell you what kind of RAM you need :)

Sorry, I couldnt find a video for that specific series :( If you dont have an easy access panel to access the HDD, you will have to remove the entire bottom case most likely. Remove all the screws and sometimes they hide screws under the rubber feet. Feel free to upload video to your own channel and message me back here when you do. My Dell 5559 said to replace the hard drive. When I installed the new one (I followed all the Dell support videos to do it) computer says hard drive not installed. I went back to the original hard drive and again said hard drive not installed. Any suggestions?

Yes, if your hard drive is faulty, you would want to replace asap. Having to replace a component is a great chance to upgrade while your at it :) Try a solid state drive instead. It depends on how bad the hard drive is. You can try to hook it up to another computer with an external hard drive link and see if you can access the data that way. If not, you may have to bring to a repair shop. Sometimes we can get data off bad drives.

There isnt really a best HDD. It depends on what you need it for. What brand and model computer do you have and what are you trying to do? Just upgrade the HDD to a faster one?
