Oh my gosh! Just finished replacing the actuator on our 2010 F250. This video is awesome! Perfect step-by-step instructions. Dealership wanted $400 to replace it! 2 hours of my time, it's done, it works and I learned something new. Thank you!

A thousand thanks! My local locksmith wanted $100 per door to change the actuators. The first one took me a little time, but the second one was much easier. A note: The 3 screws for the door latch were secured with thread locker, so I applied same during reassembly.

The video was essential. When I read that people changed actuators in 15 minutes I feel totally inadequate, because it certainly took me longer. But without the video I wouldn't have been able to do it. There was a part that connects the door handle to the actuator that is tricky to remove, at least I found it so. In the video, the presenter's hand was making it impossible to see how this steel rod came out of a plastic fitting that one has to squeeze to be able to pry the thing off. But finally I got it. Thanks a lot!!

if you have an early 99 super duty (like I do), you won't have that nice big vertical rectangle cut-out on the inside of the door, but rather one or two small diameter holes you can barely see through. Consequently, it took two sets of hands to get mine back together properly. Still very doable, and worked great once done...thanks for this video!

For the heck of it check the wire harness between the door and body of the car to see if there's a broken or a frayed wire in there. If there is that could be causing the intermittent issue.

Hello, Great video. I have a question. I have a problem where the drivers-lock/unlock button does not work and the passenger-lock/unlock button only unlocks. In looking at the schematic, that leads me to believe that two out of the three relays are bad.the two relays are the drivers unlock relay and the all lock relay. the schematic does not say where the relays are. the relays are not listed in the fuse/relay list that is in the owners manual. Have any ideas? Thank you, Paul.

So, I followed your video and managed to get both actuators replaced. However, while trying to move the rear vertical (felt-lined) window trackbar out of the way I created a kink way up in the corner (near the door lock knob). The kink is bad enough that the window now hangs up on it and won’t roll down. Is there a simple repair for this type of damage or am I screwed? Do I need to get an entirely new track system? Is there a simpler fix action?

3:06 that 10mm bolt that you removed that holds that thick vertical bar in place, when I went to tighten that back up the hole was off and was extremely difficult to rebolt, and now my window rolls at a snails pace. Any clues what happened? God, I wish I has that fatty opening in my door, instead of the two tiny holes.

You may want to start by checking the fuses first, it they are okay, check the power to the door lock switch with a test light or an ohm meter. If there's power to the switch, but not from the switch, chances are that the switch is bad. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Hi Mike--great video. My question is about a 1999 Ford E-150 van. The electric locks keep popping open by themselves continuously, constantly unlocking themselves--especially after going through a car wash. I can't leave the van unattended, I have to disconnect the battery, or the doors will unlock themselves. I have already replaced the drivers door lock switch, but there is no change. What should I check next--would it be the actuator? When the locks pop open--it's all of them at once. Any suggestions?

It was a nightmare to do this, and best part is replacing the actuator did NOTHING. Door unlocks but won't lock, exactly as it was before. Except now the handle won't open the door from the inside. So yeah, super happy that it has been so easy for everyone else cause this is rage inducing.

Thought I had a bad door lock mechanism because the switch would not lift the button all the way. The outside door handle was also not working right. After some WD-40 on the handle from the inside, the electric lock worked just fine. So I did not have to go through replacing that whole mechanism. But at least I know where to look, if I have to change it some day.

You may want to check the wire harness that runs between the door and body of the car, on the driver and passengers side for a broken or frayed wire. This may be causing the intermittent power issue that you're experiencing. Hope this helps you out.

Nice video. Even nicer is that big rectangular hole in the inner sheet metal of the door that you used to get to the latch etc. My 2000 F250 only has a small hole there, so I can not follow these instructions. It's nice to know what's there behind, but my fingers won't fit in so I don't have access, will have to figure out another method. It would be nice if you showed two demo trucks so those of us with gen1.0 Super Duty trucks that only have a small hole can see how to do it.

I just did mine on my Ford Truck but I have done six window actuators on my dodge van, two things that can cause your windows to stick the wire harness and the cables must be placed towards the inside of the window track, that was the 10mm bolt you had to remove and the other is if you don't get the window track in the same position as it was originally the window will bind up in the track; had the same problem before and had to loosen the bolt and adjust the track.
@jamesb1988

@@rr19601 Can you elaborate on this?? Because the bolt he removes at 3:06 I can no longer bolt in (I have to leave the felt track hanging free) because it's extremely misaligned... I have to put a TON of muscle to be able to bolt it in and it makes the window impossible to roll/unroll. When I look up I can see the metal part where the felt track is supposed to slide onto but no matter how hard I try I can't get it aligned properly. Help?? :(

A good video... very helpful, but I have one issue. You're calling the fasteners out by their *head* hex size, that's not correct. Most auto applications have bolts with a 10mm hex and a 6mm x 1.0 course thread pitch, so it's a 6mm bolt x whatever length. If you lost one and went to the hardware store and asked for a 10mm bolt, they'd give you something with a 17mm hex head a little over 3/8 inch in diameter thread pitch. Picky yes, but that's an important detail.

Man, I wish I had that big ass rectangle opening to see/work through instead of the two tiny holes that you cant reach through and can barely see through... I tried to do this repair and broke pretty much every clip/plug/locking bar out of difficulty/frustration. So be warned everyone, maybe a door that doesn't always lock/unlock isn't that bad, because now my door doesn't unlock or lock at all and can only be opened from the inside because of the damage I did trying to do this repair.
