I recommend keeping the belt on and break the torque in the water pump pulley bolts then take off the belt and continue with the job.

Pulley wheel. I have a giant 16 " screwdriver I put behind the pulley wheel at one oclock to the left of the shaft and spun the wheel counter clockwise til it hung up on something. It worked. Listen to the other comment that says don't take the belt off til you get those four 8 mils loose....good tip.

Stuck on old gasket material - if you use chisels and scrapers, you're just going to chew up that metal. What worked best is the old cheapo straight edge razor blade handle...it gets behind the old gasket real good without damage. You'll have to clean off a real thin layer as well sometimes....use a real bright flashlight to make sure you get it all. And clean around those two pins real good - looks like a good spot for leaks. Did my final sanding with 400 grit paper...cleans it up real nice.

What kind of thread sealer did you use? I’m going to be doing this on my 96 LeSabre. Does the water pump gasket use a gasket sealer? Thx.

Plastic underbody cover. I have mine re-enforced with nuts ,bolts and lockwashers. I was NOT taking that thing off. So I took my little cutting wheel tool and cut a little 3/4 trap door square and bent the plastic down and out of the way, under the radiator drain. A little block of wood held the cable forward and out of the way.

Radiator drain can be loosened with a 3/4 inch deep well socket...don't snap in your extension to it and when it starts to pour, just pull your tool out and the socket will drop in your bucket.

Coolant will come pouring out of the 1/2 inch bolt holes so be prepared. The stuff I'm using on re-install is Permatex Seal + Lock. It'll seal in the water and it gives a medium(blue) lock on the bolts as you really don't tighten these bolts all that much cuz its all aluminum. Torque if you can.

Pulley wheel bolts : since one of my 8 mil. bolts stripped, I went in search of new ones. The size is M6- 1.00. I found some at Advance, they are class 10.9 which means they are strength tempered and....they have 12mm heads instead of those measly 8mm heads. Good deal. Edit : package says 12mm.....they are actually 10 mm. To tighten I set a block of wood on the balancer wheel and have one of the bolts hit up against it. Going to let my permatex on the bolts set up over nite and fill tomorrow using distilled water with my antifreeze concentrate.

This video doesnt apply to the 2000 Buick Regal because there are 2 more steps involved and did you put gasket glue on the water pump because mine must of had glue because i had a hard time getting it off and is there different types of gaskets for this water pump? and if so ..what kind is the best ??? 😅

Well, one of my 8 mil. screws on the pulley wheel stripped but fortunately I had an Irwin bolt extractor kit for my 1983 Honda i'm working on....and one of the sizes was 8 mil ! Tapped that baby on and off she came. whew.

Is it absolutely critical that you have to torque these bolts because I don't have a torque wrench

Good video except you put on the splash shield too soon. You need to install the fluid and with all that done you check for leaks then install the splash shield!
