Don't forget to put a little bit of anti seize lube on the inside of the brake rotor to help with removal next time. And lube up those metal contacts where the pad slides on the assembly.
@1AAuto12 жыл бұрын
@leszczynskic You don't need to bleed the brakes unless the brake pedal is extremely hard or really soft. Bleeding them would help to relieve any air that could be trapped in the line. You do not need the remove the brake fluid reservoir cap, while putting the new pads on.

Very good video. Excellent video. Just one thing that shouldn't have to be mentioned but that isn't how it works--tighten the cap on the brake fluid reservoir before pumping the brake pedal to set the calipers.

Would the process be the same for changing the front brakes on a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500?
@1AAuto10 жыл бұрын
If it's a 4WD 99 Dodge Ram 1500 it should be a similar process. The 2WD Ram doesn't use a floating rotor, so you would need to remove the wheel bearing cotter pin and nut, along with the front wheel bearings. You would also need to repack the wheel bearings with grease when putting the brake rotors and wheel bearings back together. If it's a high mileage truck, and the bearings are original, it may not hurt to replace them while you're in there. We carry new brake pad and rotor kits on our website, here's a link to them. Hope this helps you out. www.1aauto.com/1999-dodge-ram-1500-truck-brake-pad-and-rotor-kits/y-mo-c/1999-1463-127?KZbin&KZbin&ATony

Took the wheel off to inspect my brakes and noticed the pads rubbing the rotor just like in this video. Is this normal ? I thought wheels had to be able to rotate freely if it was in Park. Thank you!
@1AAuto8 жыл бұрын
+TheRaevin That sounds pretty normal. So long as it wasn't rubbing with enough friction to keep the rotor from spinning at all. If it felt difficult to rotate the wheel, then it's possible that there was too much pressure. That could mean that it's time to replace the caliper as the piston may be stuck out. But typically there is some amount of drag from the pads on on the rotor just because of how close they need to sit to the rotor. Putting the vehicle in park will only affect the transmission, and will actually keep the drive wheels from rotating at all. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393

13/16 OR 21mm?? That is not how it works. All the bolts behind the wheel should be metric. Also, the caliper slide pins, slide shims, and even the back of the brake pad surface should all be greased. DIY videos should be advertised as such, this is not a good example to follow. Way easier to clean the discs on before they go on, they need to be cleaned thoroughly with brake cleaner, any residual residue will gum up the brakes and cause overheating. What about burnishing? Not even mentioned.

It’s great to know mechanics. Everyone in the world drives a vehicle. You know mechanical knowledge you can work on your own vehicles at home and only spend money on parts. No ridiculous mechanic shop bills. Me, I only have parts bills. I do all my vehicles maintenance myself in my shop at my home. Oh so good not to pay a ridiculous mechanic shop bill. I buy the parts, I do the work. Parts are expensive. Mechanic work is expensive. I subtracted the mechanic Bill, i only get the parts bills. Having to pay for the parts plus the damn mechanics is a shit ton of money. I only pay for the parts. People should get into it more... at least learn basic maintenance. A lot are afraid of getting messing. I say, wear gloves, be quick so fluid don’t splatter you, you take a nice warm shower after the job! People that aren’t quick will get oil down their arms under their clothes. Brutal. Be quick and stay away from the caps. It’s much more beneficial to your wallet if you learn at least basic maintenance. You buy the parts, and you do the job. Makes you feel better too. I do all my cars and trucks myself, or with help of buddies. Good pals with you makes it fun.
