The housing where that ball joint fits is cracked that's why it came out super easy. You can see it when you are using the air hammer. Cheers.

I think it’s the powder coating that’s cracking off

Ok... so at 14:51 .... jump cut to success !!!.....only after 45 mins of swearing, sweating, drinking tea, looking at it, struggling and hammering inappropriate bit of suspension ...... and at 14:52 IT'S IN! I did these last weekend ... what a fight. The originals lasted 18 years, I don't want to do this again for another 18. But seriously, thanks for your tutorials, always helpful.

Great video. Very helpful. Amateur tip for this project: you sometimes have to be exceedingly violent to get these joints to break free especially when they are bad worn.

Great video, much better than other more “sterile” ones, where you can tell everything is new and easy to work on. One negative though is the cut between getting the ball joint stud located, and getting the knuckle back in place. No amount of prying gets the strut back into a good enough position. REMOVE THE SWAY BAR LINK. And if you can’t, order a new one and grind the old one off. Seriously

I was COMPLETELY unprepared for the weight of the wheel hub assembly, when I watched this video I didn't notice the jump cut when he gets the pry bar out, I had mine handy still, but had to get a neighbor to come over and help me align the bolt while I lifted up the wheel hub. I also think it would have been a lot easier with the rod that goes to the strut detached, I had a lot of issues getting the strut far enough out of the way to lift up the assembly. I would say, if you're doing this by yourself in your garage, you should take off the rotor as well, because that'll save you about 30 pounds of lifting and make it easier to maneuver stuff.

Yep. I'm doing brakes at the same time so all that will be taken off.

Hello, why do you use the 90-degree angle? what's that for?
Is it completely necessary to use the 90 degree angle tool? I've never seen it used before and don't have one

Hi, the top strut bolt lives in an oversize hole to allow camber setting. You lost that setting. Some apply punch dots to allow align on re assy.

on the passenger front of the volvo xc90, how do you remove the two bolts going into the front of the control arm? my son i think ran over a curb and the threads are stripped and one bolt is bent

I agree, I tried installing the ball joint without the tool and chucked my ratchet across the garage and inbedded it in the side of a cardboard box. So, I went to Amazon and found the Volvo Ball joint installation tool (Resonably priced) and received it the next day. It only took a couple minutes to pound the ball joint home with the tool after wasting a couple hours and frustration trying to install it without the tool. A1 Auto, thank you for the video and torque values, but you may want to let your viewers know about the tool. My will be donated to my local Oreilly Auto Parts store, (or sold online) because I know they don't have this tool for rent.

Very comprehensive, but no one I know has a $2K 3.5 Tonne car lift in their parking garage or on their driveway that I can use, and why did you have to fully remove the lower control arm?

I need to do this job, but I'm worried about getting the ball joint separated from the knuckle, given that I don't have an air chisel. Has anyone done it with just hand tools? I don't want to get stuck halfway through this job...
