Did this job on the truck that my father use to own. I miss working on things with him. I have heard it clanking around for a few years and figured it was time to freshen it up. Rides smooth and straight now Pop! Thanks for watching over me!

Or, if your truck is like mine with over 400 000 km on it and way too many hard winters, you will also need a grinder, a torch, plenty of penetratating oil, a light for working at night, a tarp for working in the rain, a new brake hose because the one you barely touched broke right off, a flaring kit, and about 8 hrs of your time. I got a full length movie here!

Thanks for posting these videos. They're very informative and helpful. A couple of improvements to this one would be: 1) Show and explain the process of raising the suspension to ride height. It is mentioned, but not shown. 2) The torque spec for the lug nuts is different depending on the year and stud size from 1997-1999 with 12mm studs (100 Lb-Ft) , to 2000-2002 which use 14mm studs (150 Lb-Ft) .
@AMR362775 жыл бұрын
I agree with the point ashemoski mentioned here. I couldn't understand what you were trying to set as far as ride height? I imagine that would be a "required" setting before rolling the vehicle out on the highway. Otherwise, great video.

Great video. I had been noticing this kind of rattling noise the past few weeks so today I went and looked around while greasng the front end of my 2001 F150 4x4 flareside. That's when I noticed the left side rubber seal being broken and I could pull it off.. So looks like I'm going to need to replace the control arm and will just do both sides since it appears the rubber seals are almost all deteriorated. As well it seems not to cost but about $10 more each to replace the "entire control arm" instead of trying to just replace the upper bushing/seals.
@AMR362775 жыл бұрын
After watching the specific section on setting the ride height, what I think he just means is; when you set the 2 bolts using the paint marks he made before removing the bolts, that is in fact setting the ride height back to "roughly" where it was before removing. That gets it close to where it was until you can get the front end aligned again after replacing the control arms.

Where do I get an oil filter relocator kit like the one on this truck? Do you guys carry them? Any tips on getting the upper control arm bolts out if they are seized? Dealing with that in the morning- may have to resort to cutting the bolts out with my angle grinder😞

When should you add grease to the boots? Should they remain dry until the reinstall is completed and torqued, then filled? Or should I add just a little before the install.
@1AAuto4 жыл бұрын
+Kim Greeley - CDPHE Thanks for watching! The ball joint in this video is pregreased and sealed, so you do not need to add any grease. If it has a grease fitting then you will want to add the grease prior to installation!
@jayryan74732 жыл бұрын
Always check for grease even if you think there's some in there! I just purchased some Precision brand control arms and there was hardly any grease. There was none in the boot just some wiped around the joint. Ironically same thing happened to some boots that a big auto repair business installed for me. I can't totally blame the auto repair store because the factory put the grease in but they should have checked.

how do yu know whats the right height before you tightened the bolts of the control arm?
@SerenoOunce5 жыл бұрын
He covers this @ 7:10. Another jack has to be positioned under the lower ball joint, then lower the primary jack. I recommend keeping some tension on the primary jack as a backup in case the one under the ball joint slips.

RIDE height not right height
@kmjvandy1412 жыл бұрын
Easiest way to set the ride height is to measure from the center of the axle up to the fender wheel well before you start the job while the wheel is on the ground. Then when you are ready to tighten the control arms bolts, use a jack to raise the hub assembly to the ride height by again measuring from the axle center to the fender.

Per ford installation instructions the bolt heads are supposed to be facing toward each other. Why was that not done on this truck
@Jerry2Murray2 жыл бұрын
So, explain how you got the correct ride height to make sure the arms are in a neutral position before torqueing them.
@alexeyscedillo81132 жыл бұрын
Just Jack it up, so you can put some load on the suspension. Then torque the bolts. There’s no exact ride height. That’s the only reason he jacked the BCA. To put a load on the TCA bolts.

@skuzzyj4 жыл бұрын
4 wheel drive. It has torsion bars instead of coil springs for the front independent suspension. My truck is the same way. Actually, my buddy's Plymouth from the 60s has the same basic design up front. Though, that's without 4 wheel drive.
