Hiking poles, also called trekking poles, are important for hikers and walkers of all ages, and they are almost essential for the older hiker. For my use, the tips of the poles break at around 750 miles and their life span varies depending on the hiker and the trail. The tips of some poles are easy to replace, you slide a heavy weight like an open end adjustable wrench (Crescent Wrench) down the pole and knock off the tip. Replacement tips cost from about $2.50 to $10.
But, one of the most popular poles, the Cascade Mountain Tech carbon fiber pole, sold at Costco and often called the “Costco poles,” does not have a removable tip. Despite internet comments to the contrary, this video’s thorough exploration of the construction of the Cascade Mountain Tech poles demonstrates that the tips cannot be practically replaced. Instead, Cascade Mountain Tech sells replacement lower pole sections for $11 with free shipping. The replacement lower pole sections are what the manufacturer recommends and the best way to replace broken tips on the Costco poles.

Put in hot water to loosen the glue, the cascade tip will pop right off
