A lot of these IS250 (2nd gen) spark plug videos fail to mention there is a connector/harness that's usually clipped into the back of the intake manifold (really hard to see if not impossible - you have to go through removing all the bolts and other connectors first and lift the intake manifold before you see it). You have to unclip that harness to pull the intake manifold off. Failure to mention this sometimes causes people to yank off the intake manifold thinking it's "free," but they could be damaging that connector. FYI

I should make a video of that.

How much is to paid some one to do it? $300 bucks , changing the spark plugs on this car would take forever, I was thinking to buy one, after seeing this video, great video, NoW I'm not gonna buy A lexus IS 250 or 350 to much freaking time to do the job for just to change 6 spark plugs I give up !!!

@@tonydominguez2906 I think they'd charge something like $400-$500 because they can (mostly labor and they know it's going to be time consuming if you aren't used to all the little tricky things). If I had to do this job myself again it'd probably take me about 2 to 2.5 hours and $80 for spark plugs (assuming I have the proper hand tools and hand tools are all you need anyways). The first time around it took 4+ hours and I had to diagnose an engine code which was from ripping out that harness I mentioned. Cost an extra $30-$40 to get a new harness. Though, in $ terms, I still did it for cheaper than a mechanic would and learned more about the 2012 IS250. P.S. There's another tricky part involving the northmost bolt close to the firewall -- I really needed a U-joint type socket adapter thing to be able to get proper access on it. Not sure if this video was the one that mentions that cause I made this comment a while ago. Hope it helps

@@lIlIlIlIlIIIlIllIIllIIINoted, thanks for that info, Im honestly not sure if I have the balls to do it myself in the driveway. Lots of stuff to remember & put back. Any chance you know of some sort of write-up for this?

@@ph_mp4 Unfortunately I don't but most of the videos are pretty good. Just keep in mind what I mentioned about where you have to disconnect the harness after removing the bolt at the back. Which, by the way, is an annoying bolt and from my experience the hardest/most annoying bolt to remove. You might need a universal joint/adapter that gyrates in order to get it out.

I stripped 2 out of the 3 allen screws in the intake manifold and tried multiple solutions to take them out, such as using an allen strip screw kit, vice grips, hammering the 9mm, and jb welding another screw to it. Is there any other recommendations you have besides the one mention in the video

At that point your only other option would be to drill out the head of the bolts and extract whats left after pulling out the intake manifold.

Do you have to change the manifold seal?
@angrymechanic55292 жыл бұрын
It would be a good idea to since you are there already but I have reused them without issues.
@yansselllb1232 жыл бұрын
@@angrymechanic5529 thank you am doing it now as we speak, I think am going to reuse them for now
@ashishpatel3502 жыл бұрын
Technically you are supposed to change them because they are crush seals but you can reuse them if you have an intake leak then you'll have to change them. Make sure you clean the matting surface and gaskets if you re use them.

should always wear gloves when working on a motor. plugs must be tighten to 13 lb ft or 20 Nm on a aluminum block but not random as you show
@angrymechanic55295 жыл бұрын
All torque specs in the description were taken from Alldata repair. You are right I do not advise the beginner to tighten the plugs without a torque wrench, I have been doing this for 15 years so I have a good feel. Gloves are good to have too 😀
