I was able to replace the front brake pads using your information from this video. It is pretty straight forward like the rear brakes but I was unable to remove the rotors due to not having enough leverage with the tools I had. Thank you for the help!

Hi John: Greetings from Portland. Great video with easy to follow steps. A few years ago I changed the rear brakes on my Mazda MPV. Unfortunately, I did not know about that retainer screw on the rotor and well..., banged on it until I watched a proper video and then it came off. So, your videos can help with more than just the Mercedes.
@pinkcaddygarage2673 жыл бұрын
I imagine you would have to bang on it quite a bit with the retaining bolt still installed!

Fortunately, no issues to report in almost 3 years of ownership. Just maintenance items.

I gave up trying to disengage the rear emergency brakes. So I left it in 'D' while I cut the power off (It's on a 2 post lift). I learned if you put it in the 'N' once you open the door it engage the emergency brakes. The question I have is the new rear OEM (Mercedes) rotor's brakes, sensor. It's screeching while apply little pressure when it's cold at under 5mph. Once the rotors warmed up the noise goes away. I even put brake paste behind the pads (shims is revit to the pads) and ear.

I haven’t run into the noise issue, and I have done the rear brakes twice. See if the brake pad hardware shows any shiny mark to sindicate metal on metal.

Hey, love the info! Coupla questions. Did you have to replace the rotors? Did you get the warning light before noticing the squeal? Did you notice lack of braking? Did the fronts need done as well? Did your air suspension let all air out after you had it jacked up for awhile? Okay, more than a couple…😜
@pinkcaddygarage2672 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Yes, I replace the rotors because they were pretty chewed up. No, I did not get any warning because unfortunately only one rear wheel has a warning sensor and the other side was what got chewed up first. There was no lack of braking but the grinding noise was pretty hard to miss. I had all four wheels up in the air simultaneously so I did not notice the air suspension letting the air out nor did I have any warning lights when I finished up.

Great job all around. To find out all the details about dash menu navigation and brake sensor, did you purchase a shop manual for the GLS 450?

Other KZbin videos helped out there!

Your link for the front and rear brakes are the same. Need to replace the brakes on my GLS and would like to use the same front pads you used.

Sorry, I just saw this comment. I cannot find the part on Amazon but if you search on Google for a Powerstop KOE6903 kit it should work for you.

Good video, did you turn the ignition key to off after the brake audit procedure
@pinkcaddygarage2672 жыл бұрын
Yes, when all is finished, and you have taken the pads out of the service position via the menu you are good to turn everything off with either the key or the button if your car has one.

Thanks for the video. Do you have torque specs on those 13 and 18mm bolts?
@pinkcaddygarage2672 жыл бұрын
Always verify torque specifications for yourself because I see a lot of inconsistency on the forums. New bolts are always recommended as well. I don’t recall exactly what I adjusted them to but I think I had to use the previous generation GL450 torque specs because I couldn’t find anything for the GLS. Hopefully there is some newer information posted by now!

I’m needing to change the front brakes on my 2017 Gls 450. I assume it is the same process?
@pinkcaddygarage267 Жыл бұрын
I’ve never done it, but I am going to soon and will produce a video to show the process. Judging from previous front brake jobs it’s going to be a little easier because there is no parking brake to contend with.

That uneven pad wear is more than a little concerning. I would call out those calipers.
@pinkcaddygarage2678 ай бұрын
Good idea, just replaced the rears again at 95K miles and didn’t have the uneven wear. Maybe was sticking previously?
