You ain't gonna find a BMW that doesn't have some sort of leak, they came from the factory with known leaks. It's crazy because I've never seen a bmw that didn't have leaks all the ones I've seen and worked on was covered in fluids

Zero reason to disconnect the battery. Zero reason to remove the fan and shroud. Zero reason to take the top off of the air box before removing it. No idea why you took the 2 screws out of the radiator. Other than that, good info.

You do not need to remove the fan. O didn't have too when I replaced it. Did perfectly fine.

Not sure it is an engine oil cooler. Think it is an auto trans cooler.

Caution!, On my 2001 BMW 325xi To drain radiator unscrew inner drain plug (blue), do not unscrew 22mm hex. It will break. It only turns a partial turn to remove. I broke mine thinking it was a screw thread. Also pull reservoir STRaight up or the A/T thermostat will break with any twisting. You may be tempted because of limited clearance by two cooling lines on driver side and tightness to fan shroud on the other side. This is possibly why they remove the fan and shroud to give more clearance. Also this is edited from other more extensive videos such as removing the radiator video. This is why it includes extra info, haha. Enjoy and be careful with plastic pieces. I'm going to try some silicon spray and hook to see if it helps with removing the bottom half of the A/T thermostat still stuck in hole.

I own this car and you sound like the type of mechanic I freaking dread. You MUST remove those components to get the job done properly or you WILL break something due to less space to work with. You cannot remove that reservoir without breaking anything unless the fan and shroud are removed. I've done all the work on my own car, 2004 325i with 185k miles, and she runs better than most cars with less than 80k. The only time I ever have an issue is when I take it to a mechanic who wants to cut corners and trust me I can tell when they do. That's why I do all my own work now. This particular job he did things perfectly, no doubt you would've rocked the reservoir trying to cut corners like you say and broke the trans thermostat at the bottom and then put it back together (like so many "serviced" e46s I've seen). Oh look, now that e46 is having trans problems lmfao.

The only reason he removed all this is because they do their videos in bulk. Go watch their other cooling system videos and it’s the same as this. Except they skip the thermostat part. That’s why they had all this in there.

Hi this is a great video, I have just changed a radiator on mine and I broke that part when I pulled the tank out. I thought I would need the whole oil cooler bracket that it's goes in but happy I can just buy that part. At the moment I have put It back together with that bit broken, do you know if my auto box will get hot with that broken or stay cool as its technically open all the time. Any advice much appreciated thank you

unfortunately you don't show how to put it in. does it just pay there or screw in or is it supposed to be attached to the expansion tank?

Two questions: when I try to put the new expansion tank back in it seems like the thermostat sensor doesn’t let it sit right and also on my mounting bracket if plastic of the edges was brittle and broke so I have to replace the bracket to?

+Ronaldo Pablo Thank you for contacting us back! We do apologize for any confusion, a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission generally will not have an oil cooler so an engine oil cooler thermostat would not be needed. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you.
