I tried to do this yesterday on a 2008 Ford Fiesta/Fusion 1.4 Tdci. It would be handy to have an new oilpan at hand, because its likely that it gets bend when you take it down.

Apparently the ford service manual tells your to completely remove the catalytic converter to do this job, which is pretty dumb. Also, why aren't you using the OEM gasket designed by ford after the fact? Ford has all but admitted that they cut a huge corner by using gasket maker on the oil pan. Wouldn't the proper gasket be better than gasket maker?

It must be removed and reassembled only after having tightened the pan because otherwise the oil falling could trigger a fire when the car is hot.

Look man, I used rtv and had to remove the oil pan 4 times and it still leaks out of a very specific location on the oil pan gasket. Even after letting the rtv set for 24 hours without any oil in the sump. Somebody please tell me in not going insane

Use a dead blow hammer and *gently* tap around the side of pan to knock it loose.

You are not actually supposed to use a screwdriver or similar. It is to be removed with blows from a hammer on the drain plug. You can damage the mating surface by prying it with a screwdriver.

🚫 wrong way to disconnect the oil pan from the engine block 🚫 first of all, you don't use a pry bar to try to disconnect the oil pan at the very beginning of the procedure because you are distorting the metal on the oil pan that will cause the new oil pan gasket to fail and eventually to leak out the correct way to do it is by hitting proportionally the oil pan at different positions with a hammer and with that banging to cause harmonic vibration so the gasket could dislodge from its position the next step to do on a oil pan service that fails to disconnect from the block with the vibration caused by the hammer, is to insert between the oil pan and the engine block (in the gasket) a small screw driver or a steel pick to open it slowly in that area, and then around it, and then you may be able to use a bigger or longer tool such a screw driver or even a pry bar on it then you can pull and swing around the tool but very slowly, with tenderness, with love until the whole piece came out of position ❤💗💕💓💞💖💜💙💛 the same applies for valve cover gaskets and transmission oil pans 👆 in automechanics we use something called "common sense" while we keep our eyes open and we are open to new experiences, and that specially applies when the masters speak out 📢

mines a PZEV too, crazy the number of variants these cars can have its like oh what you driven? a ford, ford what? focus. what year? 08', what option? SE. what tranny? Auto Tran. What size? 2.0L. what model? 4-door sedan. what drive train? PZEV, what engine? now you got me there, idk if its a ZETEC or a Duratec, i thought ZETEC but now i'm hearing it might be a Duratec, the cat is attached to the exhaust manifold as single piece, only reason i know its a PZEV not a LESS
