A Million Thanks !.... I swapped out my failing '97 radiator today...I did use a commenters suggestion of not removing the fan when removing the radiator,but found it was a pain to re-install the shroud with the fan there,so I went ahead and took off the fan to re-fit the shroud...Fan came off easily with a Ford fan clutch wrench kit ($20 online)...Yeah,it took me several hours and a few"mis-steps" along the way,but your instructions saved me at least $300 just in labor alone (My mechanic now charges $140/hr.)

The other videos I've seen they used a special tool to take off the tranny lines. I couldn't get the tools to fit. Then I come across your video and you do it this way. Worked for me as well. So is it just based on the year model or something? Mines a 99

98 here! No need to do that much tear... The Haynes Rep Manual calls to remove the fan and shroud, but there is not need for that, you have room for taking the radiator out and putting the new one in. Just push the shroud back after removing the two screws that hold it in place and lift from bottom tabs. What I needed to remove was the de degas bottle, since you need room for removing the bottom rad. hose and trans. cooling line; although you might be able to get them from underneath, if you don't mind getting some coolant on you! Hope this makes it easier! The hardest part? Pulling the bottom hose out! You need to use one flat scrw dvr and some other wider leverage from the edge of the hose, and go from one side to the other prying it straight out. After half way out and only after, then you might be able to pull it out by hand!

Hey thank for the details am parked outside autozone watching this vid thinking should i rent the the fan wrench . this is the comment i was looking for will try it with out removing the fan !!!!
@Comm0ut3 жыл бұрын
No fan removal required for a radiator swap which is why few mechanics do that. If the typical specialty wrenches won't hold a water pump pulley due to the hardware being stuck, you can take a piece of flat stock (1/4" or 5/16" preferred) about two or three feet long (leverage is your friend) then drill two holes to match adjacent pulley bolt holes and an notch ground to clear the fan shaft. I use appropriately long studs (bolts with sufficient thread length say ~1" will do too) with nuts to secure the bar to the pulley hub. That gives you control with ample leverage for a proper wrench (large Crescent style etc) to free the fan. Wrenches are cheap enough to weld a couple feet of rod or flat bar to a big one and that tool mod will serve you well elsewhere. Remember most tools are made for considerations like easy shipping which don't apply in-shop so I don't hesitate to modify mine.

Does anyone know if all the F150 Radiators from 1997 to 2003 are the same ?
@rtoews93963 жыл бұрын
It appears not. In the video it’s a two core radiator. (Two rows). I’ve got a 1998 4.6L and mine has a single core. I just ordered a new single core to replace mine. From the research I’ve done it depends more where you live. I live up North in Canada and we’ve got extreme cold in the winter and short summers that don’t get terribly hot. If I upgraded to 2 cores my truck might struggle to throw heat in the cab in the winter. The first core will do about 70% of the cooling the second core 30%. If you’re in a hot climate or you tow frequently you might benefit from a 2 core.

It seems to me in this particular demonstration, the fan shroud was broken at the bottom and had clearance enough to clear the fan, I would think it would be easier just to lift the shroud without removing the fan by squeezing it past the fan...great tutorial for removing it, just the same...thanxs.

+Anitone Mamea We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair.

So, if it's a 4.6, it will use the 2 row radiator?
@boyzroundherecoc58636 жыл бұрын
I replaced mine today. I used a large pair of channel locks instead of the special fan pulley tool. I also had a different fan assembly which required lifting it out with the shroud.

Does the radiator come with o rings installed for the transmission lines?
@leroygreen18772 жыл бұрын
With the updated rad you need to buy the updated lower hose with the quick connect. Just going over the lower outlet like they did in this video will lead to issues with leaks later on. Either the lower hose will get chafed from the knife edge locks or that plastic ring with deteriorate. Its a dumb design from Ford but ever worse they are forcing you to buy expensive lower hoses to make the adaption work.

@charlierosene11173 жыл бұрын
LOWER RADIATOR HOSE QUESTIONS: Most Fords of this era have that lower radiator twist to remove connection. In that case you need to remove the white piece of plastic on the NEW radiator and use the hose with the metal barb on the inside, twist and bend tab. The new radiator should have two new "O" rings. You will notice he left that white plastic on the lower radiator outlet. I think this is ONLY safe to do when there are two "O" rings underneath that white piece of plastic. Of course with the "O"rings present, the white collar can be used with a standard spring clamp. Someone please reply an let me know your opinion or experience.

Hi, my f150 is a 2003 and recently I've been having an over heating problem, I just flushed the radiator fluid, and put new fluid in, and also just changed my oil, for they were both very dark,(my family suggested to do so thinking it one of the two that was causing the over heating) but now I have a loud ticking/clanking sound when reaching high speeds in any gear, in the passenger side of the engine bay, if you could help me so I don't have to spend thousands of dollars to try and fix this, what would be your professional opinion on the matter?
