You didn’t grease the ears/ tabs on the actual pads where they run and slide in the brake hardware clips. Also, it’s important to make sure that the brake slides are greased and clean ready for the new set of pads so they do not lock onto the rotor and destroy it.
@chrisb52204 жыл бұрын
What was in the can that you sprayed on the rotor?
@HomegrownHowTo4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, that was brake cleaner. Removes any grease and/or dirt. Thanks for watching.

What did you spray on the caliper and rotors and why use the grease?
@HomegrownHowTo2 жыл бұрын
It’s a break cleaner. The grease essentially makes a seal on the calipers.

You should also grease the tabs or “ears” on your brake pads so that they slide without hanging up or seizing. That’s a huge step missed here. You also want to clean off and apply new clean grease to the slide pins. Forgetting to grease the hardware correctly can often lead to uneven brake wear so it’s best to always to do it properly.

Now my problem is the piston there is no way to turn it coz the special tools they gave me is not capable to use
@HomegrownHowTo3 жыл бұрын
@@ronngarcia1693 yes those can be a pain to use. Fortunately for me my calipers we the type you can just collapse with a clamp. The type you spin to collapse are difficult. There should be a video that you can find that will give you some tips on collapsing those type of calipers. Good luck, my friend.

Do you know if this video applies to a 2018 Equinox?
@HomegrownHowTo4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anne, all disc brake jobs are typically the same- but you will likely have a different part number for your actual brake pads. Hope that helps. Good luck.

your lucky ! Buick encore has spin calipers in the rear

cartoonist1975 those are annoying! If you don’t have the tool to collapse that you can usually rent them for free at a auto parts stores. Makes it much easier. Good luck!

I did a friend's lumina back in the day, had those on the back. That's why I was here to check on the equinox, lol.

Why don’t you remove the rotor and resurface it or replace it with a new one? I would think it’s a better break job with new pads on a completely flat rotor. It’s like changing a baby diaper without cleaning it’s bottom.
@HomegrownHowTo3 жыл бұрын
It would make a flawless job but IMO it’s not needed every time you replace pads. My rotors are pretty smooth. I’ll only change them if the rotor doesn’t feel smooth. Plus I’m cheap lol.
@canudie1978 Жыл бұрын
i will run a couple sets of pads before I change my rotor unless I notice something going on with that side brake. after doing mechanics for 25 years you learn what u can and can NOT do.. a garage will always sell u rotors because of liability or any problems down the road with item it will be warranty between the shop and the parts store..

@@canudie1978I sold a 98 s-10 a few years ago, got it at 36,000 miles in 2000, sold it in 2020 at 228,000. Factory rotors and bearings, stopped smooth, zero vibration/pulsing. Regret selling that thing.
