Never opened the bleeder screw when pushing the piston in. Done plenty of brake jobs. This is the first time I'm hearing that.

Thank you. It was helpful to see how much force can be applied to get a stuck rotor off. Although you did not go into it, the video showed where to put WD40 to assist.

The video was very helpful, I wish I'd have looked for it before starting the brake job on my Elantra. WORD OF WARNING THOUGH.. (forgive me if this was mentioned in vid and I missed it..) I discovered that the Hyundai changed it's rear brake assembly for the 2009 Elantras mid-run. According to Bosch.. if you search for all '09 Elantra rear brake pads,.. there's one set of pads for cars produced up till 10/19/2009 (larger tabs at top of sides of pad plate) and another for those produced from 10/20/2009-on (smaller tabs, about 3/4 up side of pad plate). Each pad obviously has different retention clips too. Check what you've got before you order parts or you'll be super confused like I was. One other note.. it's not clear what a search result is going to return to you. If I search the Bosch website for my car by make/model/year.. I get the wrong part. If I search for brake pads there by my VIN.. the Bosch site doesn't return the correct part.. it returns all brake pads for every type of 09 Elantra.. because of course it does. :-/ I had similar issues searching for parts at Amazon and other Auto parts vendors. None of them indicated there were two different brake assemblies with different parts for of the 09 Elantra. They just return parts that may or may not work for your car. I've got the earlier pads.. which look suspiciously like the 08 Elantra pads.. and not so much like what usually gets returned when you search for '09 Elantra rear brake pads.

Yep. I am aware of what you mean. I was changing the rear brakes for a 2010 Elantra and search results push out pads that are only good up through 10/19/2009. It causes confusion because many 2010 models were made in late 2009 and many auto sites fail to mention if the are pre-10/19/2009, post 10/20/2009 and then some say up through 03/2010. So now that's another date interval which cause confusion. I will make a brake change video on this issue soon.

Bought the 1A auto rear brakes package and did my 2008 Elantra today. The pads were too big for the calipers by about 1/16 inch. I had to grind them down so they were able to fit. Done plenty of brakes jobs, never had that happen

The same vehicle also came with drum brakes in the rear, instead of drum-in-hat style disc brakes. Some videos on service for this brake setup would be wonderful.

Thank you for not glossing over the stuck brake rotor. DYI people need to decide if they are equipped to move to "Plan B", and "Plan C" when things don't go perfectly.

I enjoyed this video. Video was very clear. As a novice, I would like to point out a couple of minor things that would help out a first timer who wouldn't know what additional precautions to take during installation. For example, while preparing the new brake pads and rotors prior to installation, it should be mentioned that both parts should be sprayed with brake cleaner, to remove any manufacturing/packing, oil or grease from the new surfaces. Also, I noticed that the mechanic did not use or recommend using, a drift pin to align the bolt holes of the arm located behind the caliper bracket. Tapping the arm bolt into place without aligning the holes properly, could damage the threads on the bolt when tapping the bolt in place. These are lessons I learned while performing my first rotor and brake pads replacement last spring (2019).Thank you! Keep the great quality videos coming!

Did you bleed your brake after you did yours?

I see no dust shiel. Does that causes any problems in the future?

Is it always necessary to bleed it afterwards? I watched two other videos where they didn't bleed it.

Does the 2009 Elantra Touring hatchback require a special tool to TURN the rear caliper pistons in order to push them back into the caliper, so that you can fit the caliper over the new thicker pads?
@datgamerboy1234 жыл бұрын
Brand name OEM tools has a little cube looking thing with several protrusions for winding back the piston. Myself, I've had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to do it.

What happens if the bolt you removed to access the caliper bracket is frozen in the bushing? Mine is!!
@danielc13042 жыл бұрын
You torch out the arm bushing and and replace the arm
@toreeadams98733 жыл бұрын
It's not hard to get the caliper bolt out from behind the support arm. Actually was alot easier to do than removing the arm bolt. Especially if you dont have air tools.
