Thx for posting . Two things I do is I never use a wire brush on anything to do brakes. Best to use a cleaner and remove the dust first and put the rag in a plastic bag and then in the bin.file or emery cloth and a mask. That dust is harmful! Also I lay all the bits removed in the same orientation to the side on the deck as I can see exactly how it was removed and know it's correct when reinstalled. You can also take a photo on your phone before you start..

Hi, really found this video useful. Agree that with brakes it is a good idea to do one side at a time, so you can use the other side for reference. Also I take a few photos on my phone showing where each spring fits.Great that you are willing to show that refitting the brake springs can be 'fiddly', reassuring that I am not alone in finding this job patience trying! Keep up the good work!

Good presentation! The biggest hassle getting a brake drum off is due to the shoes wearing a lip on to the side nearest the back plate and the shoes having auto-adjusted out so the lip drags the shoes when you try to pull the drum off. Best, if accessible, to slacken the auto-adjuster to pull the shoes in away from the drum so it can pull off with a few taps of the hammer. Test foot and handbrake with help of someone in the driver's seat, wheels of the deck, before starting the brakes service to see if both work and the wheels spin freely with the brakes off. What anti-seize grease product do you use?

"It's almost like I knew what I was doing" !! Great to see even a professional with years of experience doesn't find these a piece of cake 🍰. For someone who does this maybe once in five years it sure is a challenge. have spent TWO DAYS on mine, and still not finished. Got one side on. Second side, can't get the drum on. The diameter of the fitted shoes on the good side is 200mm, on the no-go side it's 5mm more, a few mm more than the i.d of the drum. Have dismantled them both again to compare and see if there is a machining error. Not that I can see. I notice that the top of the shoes are not pushing the sides of the piston in and yet the long spring pulling them both together where you had to shift it over even further (!!) was sooo hard to stretch. The rubber on the piston ends is kind of proud and you can see the pistons but it should be like yours with the rubber going in and hiding the pistons.... All ideas welcome on this my THIRD day! Thank you.

Hit the outside rubber to pop it off it gives you more leverage and no your not going to shoot the tire and wheel across the shop with a small mallet or either one by themselves for that matter the lug nut is just to keep it from falling

Great video and advice, the best tip there is leave other side on as reference, every time. Similar to when changing drive belt/serpentine belt that drives all ancillarys, you think you can memorize it's position, when you try and fit new belt......hmmm.....it just won't go! Easy, take some photos of belt before removing, it will help!👍

mines a 2014 and it does not have the torque screws holding on the drum?
@brianiswrong4 жыл бұрын
Won't matter,the wheel nuts hold.the drum on,the torque screws just were designed for bolts really,so the drum would stay still and the bolt holes line up when refitting the wheel.
@simangadladla93304 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much . My drum can't rotate but once I removed the brake fluid pipe it's rotates ? What could be the problem . It's a ford fiesta 2011 model
@cmrnx3 жыл бұрын
could be a sticky/ partially seized wheel cylinder and when you disconnect the brake line it releases the brake fluid behind the cylinder decreasing the force behind the cylinder which allows it to slightly retract itself releasing the shoes from the drum. The reason it is sticking when the brake pipe is connected is because if the cylinder is sticky anyway it will have a hard time retracting itself as it’s getting partial stuck. If you then have the pressure of the break fluid behind the cylinder as well, it will have an even harder time retracting itself due to the pressure of the fluid acting against it causing the shoes to remain pressed against the drum locking up that wheel.

I was going to change my own shoes BUUUUUUUUTTTT I may just save the heartache and just have someone do it. Disk break pads are a cinch one you figure it out! My first time I changed pads was on an 89 Cadillac El Dorado. I didn’t know what I was doing and I figured it out. The only thing I needed to know was to push in the caliper with a C clamp so I can put it back on.

Great video but using cutters to set the spring!? Not a good idea! Risk cutting or notching the spring!
@goodolddoug8894 жыл бұрын
I noticed at the end of the video that this Fiesta is suffering from the same thing that happened to my 2011 SES. That @#$@ing wheel well lining in the rear rips up because it's made of material instead of plastic. What happened to me was that in the dead of winter I was driving 80kph (roughly 50mph) on the highway and suddenly the rear right of the car bounced up and I almost lost control. Turned out, a big chunk of ice was stuck to the lining and the weight finally ripped it, causing it to fall all over the wheel. The ice then must've gone under the wheel and dragged a chunk of the lining with it. That shit reached its limit and ripped off, but not before bouncing the car dangerously on a snowy road. If you own a Fiesta and live where it gets snowy and icy in the wintertime; do yourself a favour and rip those linings off. They're useless and potentially dangerous.
