Thank you. I just followed this video to replace the rear driver side door handler on 2012 rav4 with no major issue. the most important step is 8:36 where to make sure the white plastic fork sitting on the silver-color metal knob, otherwise the new handle cannot unlock the door.

Save time you don't need to pull the entire lock out there is plenty of space to just let it sit below that "hidden" bolt. You really just need to peel back the upper right of the vapor barrier. I messed up first time and didn't get that white fork thing on the lock mechanism so it opened from inside only.

The handle has two torque 30 bolts. The video shows him replacing just one. The door clamp has to be aligned right to work. Dont skip this step. I did not completely remove vapor barrier. Video was very useful.

You don’t need to pull the panel. Just take the t30 bolts out of the latch and push it out of the way. You’ll be able to get at the handle screw and then just put the latch back into place

You don’t have to do all this work… just unplug the white connect, peel the plastic back enough to get your hand in the hole. Unscrew the 3 - T30 screws from the door latch. Slide it down, loosen the outside door handle screw, pull out the door handle. Replace your door handle. Make sure when you push the door latch back up, there’s a white plastic lever for the door handle inside the door, beside the door latch. Slide it up and put your 3 screws in and tighten your door latch. Push the plastic back on, clip the white connector back in and push your inside door handle in the hole and replace the rest. Yeah seems like disconnecting the cables and removing the plastic sticky tape is not necessary. Moving the latch is what is needed.

For anyone wondering. Yes you can technically do this without removing the panel however it can be tricky. Like the video showed at 8:36 there's a silver knob that needs to be in between the plastic fork. Trying to do that with the panel on is very difficult and I was not able to get it. I would say give it a shot and maybe you will get lucky but I wasn't able to. Removing the panel is honestly much easier than I expected and I was able to do both doors in under 20 minutes. The video overcomplicated the process though. Instead of removing the entire blue film. Just remove the top half so you have access to the plastic fork. Also don't remove the latch, just push it down and out of the way to get access to the hidden bolt.

Great video. Thank you! Had a problem when I pulled the latch out and it broke the white plastic (forked) lever that connects the latch to the handle mechanism. So beware. Make sure you pull the latch out downwards after you remove the 3 screws so as not to break that small plastic piece.

So I have door handle in place where it will open door. Only issue is it will pop out due to missing small piece you are unscrewing at 5:03 in video that keeps it locked into place. Question however is do I have to fully take the latch mechanism out or can I just leave it in and move it out of way to get to screw to tighten the handle cover into place? The actual screw is still in there just the cover missing which I ordered. God bless!

Great video! I was able to replace the handle, and it was pretty easy. But I must have overlooked something because now I can't open the door from the inside or the outside and the lock is stuck in the unlocked position. I made sure the child lock was off, put the ball stops on the cables in the handle mechanism, and even made sure the metal rod on the mechanism lined up inside the notch on the outer door handle mechanism. Now searching for a video to show me how to get the door open. Any suggestions for that?

Thank you for everything! I learned alot in this video and as well from replacing all 3 door handles as needed. The only downside with the Rav 4 model is that the front passenger door side cover next to door handle outside has a bolt that runs sideways. Basically different than the rear doors but the good thing is I won't needa take as much apart to get to it since that bolt has an access hole from a rubber seal on the side of the door. I was like "thank God " lol. Anyways, thanks again!

Nice video but way too many unnecessary steps. Plastic seal paper remove slightly, no cables need removing. Just make sure the white hook leaver is resting onto the actuator leaver. Then make sure child lock is on unlock position. Before shutting the door, manually using your fingers play with the latching hook using your finger ls then using both inside and outside handles to see if it unlatches the hook. Very very very important before shutting the door. The biggest important step is to make sure when you are putting back the actuation mechanism that the white plastic leaver is position onto the actuation latching mechanism.
