Would it be possible to just re install the regulator with bolts and nuts instead of the rivets?

If anyone ends up here who needs to replace the window glass like I did instead of the regulator, here's the procedure: 1. Drill out rivets holding glass to regulator. Then retract regulator and glass to lowest position. 2. Remove rubber trim from around window and guides. You will have to pull it UP out of the guides. Rear side guide is a plastic piece held in by a Torx screw into the edge of yhe door and one plastic pin into the window frame. Carefully remove both and pull the guide upwards out of the door. This will take some finagling. 3. You can now pull the window up. The side of the glass towards the rear of the car has a notch giving you enough clearance to tilt the window a little towards that direction. Maybe 15 degrees or so. This will give you enough clearance to slide the window up, out of the tracks and out of the window on the "in" side of the door. 4. Do all these things in reverse order to install the new glass. Be sure the new glass is inside the window tracks and the rubber trim is firmly seated around the window and in the tracks.

I just spent ten minutes searching 1A auto's website for the exact part shown and linked here, except the passenger side. I even cut and pasted the wording from here, from the link, etc., and tried changing "drivers" to "passengers" and there was only a "sorry, not found" message. WTH? Off to the salvage yard.

This has to be the dumbest design. Why put rivets instead of regular screws/bolts...is there a reason as to make the job more complicated and requiring specialized tools ?

To raise the cost of repair and charge more. And it prevents people like you and I from doing it easily in our garage without buying extra tools. BUT you can actually remove the MOTOR itself. There are 4 T25(I think) screws and it comes right off. It's possible with a narrow screwdriver to fit inside the door. Much easier to do it with the window up but chances are if you're in this situation it's probably fully down. I wish she would have mentioned it for people like me in a pinch that JUST need the window to go up for now and worry about it later. Take the motor out, pull the window up, reinsert burnt motor, good to go.
