nice video but. perhaps i am growing up. After having seen so many of your past videos, i was able to guess what you might have done. and i was right!! select, remove, add, then adjust colours, etc. i guess the credit goes to you. and some other youtubers and udemy teachers all of whom i have learnt for the past year. i think what i feel now is that affinity is a tool, not a magic box. you can do anything with it, if you can imagine correctly what tool to use where. thanks affinity revolution team!!! i am sure i will continue to learn a lot from your channel!!

I am planning to get the Affinity Photo for iPad. Does this have limitations as compared to the desktop version?

5:08 I was practicing it with the video and at that part I don't know why even the layers everything are in same order still the curves of the sky has changed and not the Barn's.
@AffinityRevolution3 жыл бұрын
My guess is that the Curves was accidentally placed as a child layer to the sky, rather than UNDERNEATH the sky's group. Try closing the sky's group, and make sure the curves is not in the group.
@paulh25252 жыл бұрын
@@AffinityRevolution I followed the video exactly and had the same outcome as Sakthi. I found placing the Curves adj layer below the Background layer achieved the desired affect. Also the Curves Adj pop up Window in my version of Affinity does not have a Red Dot to apply and close.

You sure can! Watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHa1o2WArMlsg6M Just so you know, the app changed a shortcut. Now you open the quick menu (shown at 1:20 in the video) by long pressing with 1 finger, not tapping once with 2 fingers (that's undo now).

When I copy and paste the sky in then try to paint black or white to tidy up the edges, the colour choice is not black or white. One colour is whatever is showing on the colour wheel and the white circle has a red line through it. what am I doing wrong please?
@AffinityRevolution3 жыл бұрын
You can choose any color from the Color Panel, so all you need to do is select black or white from the Color Wheel. 😊
@tonyhicks30953 жыл бұрын
@@AffinityRevolution But why is there a red line through the white circle?
@AffinityRevolution3 жыл бұрын
@@tonyhicks3095 It means "no color", so you just need to select a color. 😊
@tonyhicks30953 жыл бұрын
@@AffinityRevolution sorry, still don't understand. Surely it is white reveals and black conceals so why do I need a colour?
@simonpayne79943 жыл бұрын
@@tonyhicks3095 If you paint onto a mask attached to something - or onto an internal mask of an adjustmnent - white reveals and overlays anything produced from any layers underneath - black hides and lets anything underneath show through. All levels of gray do something in between. That is what you nomally do. If you paint a "color" onto the mask, e.g. red, the red is treated as a shade of gray. This holds for any other colors. Using colors on a mask does not make much sense, because you probably do not know what level of gray is going to be applied. If you select the mask itself and use ALT click to display the actual mask content, and then paint a color onto it, you can see immediately that the color is turned into a shade of gray.

Random Question, When I open a file into af photo and preform various edits and then save the file as an .afphoto does it replace the original file or does it leave the original, creating a copy of it? For instance I typically use ACDSee for all my photo manipulation work and when I save a file after raw development and then layered editing it leaves the original untouched and saves a copy in their own proprietary file format for future editing. As a photographer I hate the idea of destructive editing.
@AffinityRevolution2 жыл бұрын
It's a separate file. So if you open a JPEG, work on it in Affinity, and then do File > Save As, you will then have a JPEG and an Affinity file on your computer. 😊

A rather simple sky. 😊 The problem with sky replacement is that the new beautiful sky probably needs a sunny looking rest of the picture. After a considerable amount of editing you get somethting you never saw. What I often do, is set up a blue fill layer and just mask in a couple of faint blue blotches down onto the original sky in the underlying picture. This way you get a more credible sky and do not turn the dull winter photo you actually took into a radiant summer day scene that never was. This method has the advantage that you do not have to make any selections. You just blotch your blue into a couple of appropriate sky parts. Instead of replacing the sky, you simply decorate the sky.

Tutorial always well done and with a good result. What I see are always photographs with "simple outlines", why not make one with a bare tree on a hill to change the background and maybe insert a moon. This is to give us an idea of finishing the masks. My personal vision. Thanks anyway.

@@phlotographer It is not a question of tools - there are several tools available that are capapable of replacing sky behind a tree and putting in a moon - it is a question of knowing how to use them. And the whole operation can be performed within Affinity Photo.
