Isn’t 13ft lbs too low? I thought that Honda updated that because of blow outs.

Thank you! I just replaced the spark plugs in my Honda Fit and while you made it look MUCH easier (especially putting everything back on) without this video I wouldn’t have had a clue. I’ve never worked on a car before but together me and my dad did this tonight and I want you to know your video helped so much!

Love the video! Only thing I'll add as I'm sure many have - do not use high torque tools on the wiper blade nuts. The metal and threads on those nuts is beyond soft. Hand tighten to start and torque to 10lbs in order to avoid a junkyard run or a month long wait for parts.

Great video and instructions! Not sure how you guys are swapping plugs without removing all the stuff in the video first, but more power to you! I still struggled with disconnecting the wires with everything removed.

If your arm is skinny enough, you can change all 4 plugs without removing any of the cowls or wipers. You have to do it blinded though, by feel. Just be super careful not to drop the screws for the ignition coils.

Use a paint pen, and apply a strike all the way across the stud, the nut, and the wiper control arm, so that you can place all of it in same position later!!!

The nut turns, so obviously there is no point in marking it other than to confuse things. With the nut off, mark it if you wish..... but how do you know some other work was done and the wiper put back in a less than optimal position? Best to, after reassembly, allow the wiper system perform a cycle and park itself (with the wiper arms off) them place the wiper on on a logical, horizontal park position near the bottom of the windshield and lock them into place with the nuts.

Im at 188,XXX. Should i get new coils as well? Gad mileage is currently 29mog, which is a lot lower than the 34+ I got when the car was at 175,XXX.

You'd have to be an absolute doorknob to take all that stuff off the car just to change the spark plugs! You can reach them with your left hand. All you need is the 10mm to remove the coils and the spark plug socket. I changed them on my 2011 in 10 minutes.
@TanManFixes3 ай бұрын
check them for sure, id say every 30-40k. they do like to loosen up. torque them to 20 foot pounds ! no anti seize either. use a small dab dielectric grease on the coils. it takes 10 minutes to remove the cowl and the blades so just do it. its good to have a 10mm impact drill for fast removal.

Did you mean a 5/8" spark plug socket?

Is it 13 ft lbs or is that been updated to a higher torque? Thought there was problems with the original torque spec and they updated it cause the plugs were backing out

How do you know that the spark plugs have to be torqued to a certain # of lb/ft? How do you know how many lb/ft? How do you know that the bolts that hold the wiper transmission and cowl don't need to be torqued to a specific lb/ft? Why only replace 1 spark plug? Sorry if these seem like stupid questions, I'm a wrenchlet.
@JonathanMayhorn2 жыл бұрын
Honda recommends 13lb/ft, but 20 is needed to prevent the common issue of plugs loosening and blowing out.

Thars odd, my 2010 has 4 spark plugs, yours only has 1??? That one spark plug took me about an hour, and where did you get all that clearance??? And, it looks like the first one was the only EASY?? ONE. How about showing us "the rest of the story", cause I have to get this done, and i have no other help.(or a torque wrench). Your video starts out good, and then the bottom drops out. HELP?

Sir how about the size of spark plug socket of honda fit gd1 2001?
@nameredacted12422 жыл бұрын
STANDARD spark plug socket with a rubber insert. If I tell you socket size, you will try to use a regular socket not made for spark plug replacement, and fail miserably!
@paulh6591 Жыл бұрын
@@nameredacted1242 Don't be catty; There is no one standard. I have a dual-sided wrench for spark plugs in my box which is 13/20mm. 14 and 18mm spark plug sockets are also common. My other one is 13/16" one. The FIT takes a 16mm size deep well socket. A 5/8 inch (15.875 mm) one should work as well. If you don't have one specifically made to be a spark plug socket, just line a regular deep-socket 16mm socket with rubber.

What's the point of only replacing one of four spark plugs??? That's why I have not seen a YT video that is BS!
@nameismetatoo4591 Жыл бұрын
The rest are identical, so it would be pointless to show the rest of the procedure. Also if your local auto parts store only has low-quality or overpriced plugs and/or coils, it might make more sense to replace whichever cylinder is misfiring and order the remaining ones online.
